Expecting him to be this good every time out might be setting the bar a bit too high. But we need our starters to give us quality starts as much as possible.

For @KungWu a quality start is a statistic for a starting pitcher defined as a game in which the pitcher completes at least six innings and permits no more than three earned runs.

I wouldn't count on very many games this year where Shocker pitchers only face 3 batters over the minimum like they did today. But, whenever you do manage that, you should win.

I don't really think HCEW is breathing down any of his players necks. He no doubt has high expectations of how he wants his guys to play the game and to take care of business during game, at practiced, in the clubhouse and away from the field. But HCEW is smart enough to know that you play best when you play free and loose. No doubt these young men very much want to please HCEW but he doesn't want them pressing to make that happen.

Know doubt though that he will treat them like men and hold them accountable.

        • We can tell from today's game that Mike Pelfrey is clearly the best pitching coach in the history of Shocker Baseball.

          Nice win, Shox!

I was just goof-ballin'. Honestly I bet he commands respect without having to say much.

Pelfrey in the coaching Hall of Fame yet, or should we wait on that another day or two?
Let’s wait but after last night where someone wanted to fry him in the 7th after a great starting performance, I just wanted to give Pelfrey a huge shoutout. We need to give this staff time to make changes they have to and stop jumping down their throats for everything that happens this year.

              • Congrats to Wedge on his first coaching W.

                Definitely a nice bounce back.

Would it be too much to ask for an opening series victory to start the season?

                ... No really, deuces.

                    • Very nice game.. Last night I hope was an aberration. I would give game balls to Liam and HCEW. I like the pace of the game but in the GS era our pitchers always worked quickly and really no need for a clock but teams like Okie state used to step out of the box constantly to break up the pitchers tempo. Ah the good old hatred of all things cowboy.

                      • Slightly lost in last night's 1.1 inning debacle where we gave up all 11 runs was Ryan Stuempfig's 1.2 inning performance. 5 BF with 4Ks and a ground out. Yes the game was decided, but at least he threw strikes. He had moments at the end of last year and it would certainly help if he's made strides this season.

                        • I was listening to the game yesterday and Shane Dennis talked about the available bench position players. He mentioned Diehl, Killeen, Marsh, and Vanvooren as a pitch runner only. Is Cooper Elliott hurt as well?

                          • In my seat at the Roundhouse to cheer on the Shocks all the while listening to the Shox and their attempt to win and take the HCEW era to 2-1.

                            Go Shox!
