It is certainly not good. Especially with Jerrance Howard magically getting David McCormack to Kansas. Jerrance Howard would not surprise me at all to be involved in some sort of illicit frauding of players.

KU is not a clean program and most educated KU fans would not say they are. I can list 3-5 known examples during my time in Lawrence, but I believe I already have.

Yup .. it's being referred to as the elephant in the room right now. Could be a whole separate case in itself if there is that much going on.

I'd be surprised if they could get any federal charges, but certainly through the course of the investigation they could find information that leads to a massive impermissible benefits uncovering.

And soon after that someone told them that the FBI has access to all of their text messages through their wireless carriers. Oops.

Could go the other direction. There are more schools in the P5 not doing this than there are doing it.

So, KU says, "let's bolt this Mickey Mouse NCAA". K State, Iowa state, Texas Christian say "you want us to approve making it even easier for you to cheat?"

We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

Obviously still early on in investigations, but thought just occurred to me.
Hard to say how much impact this will have on the upcoming season other that a cloud hanging over the head of the sport. Legal issues are not exactly known to be settled expeditiously. This could take a long while to sort out. It's possible the Fed's are primarily looking for a big financial settlement from Adidas (and perahps Nike and UA) and maybe even the universities involved to make this go away.

So if a School has a deal with a specific apparel maker who provides that school with free or discounted uniforms, shoes, etc. Does that make that apparel maker a booster under the NCAA rules?

Obviously, the apparel maker believes they are receiving a benefit in terms of marketing from these deals at least commensurate with what they are giving?

                        • "BIG. NEWS." could easily be Pitino either resigning or getting canned.

EDIT: Stickboy beat me to the thought.

It could be. Difficult to tell if the announcement is from the FBI or UL.

There will probably be a bunch of fallout after they start really interviewing the Adidas guy. He's gotta have dirt on all of the schools.

I'm also sure there will be NCAA infractions that aren't Federal crimes that surface so they wouldn't be contained in this FBI report.

                              • To me, pitino finally getting fired is hardly big, surprising news. When pitino gets fired everyone will say "yeah, probably knew that was coming. Not sure why he wasn't already. Meh..."

The big news will be finding out what 10 other coaches/programs are going down too.
