I'm not really concerned about the Illinois job. I don't think it would appeal to Coach Marshall and I would be very surpirsed if Illinois would go back to the MVC for a replacement for a failed Coach that came from the MVC.

I'm more worried about a coach at a big time school retiring and leaving the program in fine condition to his heir. Are there any rumors circulating about future retirements?

        Maybe Jim Calhoun at UConn.

Again I don't see UConn and 3G hooking up though.

But therein lies the domino effect. Don't be stunned if Syracuse also is looking for a coach. Syracuse, UConn, Illinois, UCLA....those are big time programs that are going to attract big time names and they have huge bankrolls. If all 4 come open, hang on to your hats because jobs will be changing all over the place.

Based on what I saw on one of the South Carolina message boards they will owe Coach Horn $2 million if let go prior to April 1st and $1.25 million thereafter. I was a little surpirsing to me that their fans seemed to think that this was a big issue and could lead the USC AD to give Horn one more year.

IF they do replace Coach Horn the names I have seen thrown out were Shaka Smart, Steve Alford and Gregg Marshall. 3G might actually be the most controversial of the three at least among the fan base.

And to think, when I was a kid I loved the domino effect.

It's hard to believe Syracuse would not let Boeheim call his shot, but perhaps the recent drug testing screw-up would be enough for the University to quietly encourage him to retire.

I went over to a South Carolina board out of curiosity. On the last day of their season there were twice as many readers on the football forum than were reading about basketball.
Where oh where is our T. Boone Pickens.

I think the defamation of character law suit against him and the university would be a bigger thing than the drug testing.

The only team in the SEC that has more support for basketball than football is Kentucky, and it's because they're historically atrocious in football.

Go to any of the schools in the SEC and not only is Football ahead of Basketball, but Basketball is sometimes 3rd on the list behind baseball.

He's not high profile enough? I think if he makes a deep run into the tourney this year I wouldn't even be comfortable thinking that UConn is out of the question. Why would it be?

The last I looked S.Carolina fan base had done a complete 180 on HC3GM and was drooling about the thought of him coming (I noticed this when we played Davidson). Although the fan base doesn't appear to have given up on Horn yet either, which is very surprising. I don't think they are as rabid as we are or something?

I think HC3GM is clearly the top of that list, and by a long shot. Unfortunately for them S.Carolina is actually a step down from what he has here and so the big unknown is does going back to a lesser situation at the mothership override a better situation at school where he has the best recruiting class ever. Very hard to imagine him taking a step backward at this moment, but if he or his wife is homesick, what can you do?

Yeah, this isn't the best analogy but I got a feeling it's close: Boeheim is to Syracuse as Stephenson is to WSU.

Good point, that will be interesting to see how it's handled. They have to be ultra sensitive due to the UPenn scandal. But it's also funny what a national championship will let you get by with too.

It's not out the question, but I just don't see 3G and Lynn as Nor'easter types. I can also see the UConn fan base turning their noses up at the prospect of having to dip into the ranks of a "mid-major" program for a Coach. Honestly, if Coach would go I see them has Sou'easters.
