I'm pretty sure that sacrificing your principals, being fiscally irresponsible, more immorality, big government is not the answer.

I wonder if Obama/Democrats was allowed to govern his 49% and Romney/Republican were allowed to govern their 49% - who would be in better shape in 4 years?

If your advice is followed, then the Republican party will be a fringe national party in ten years.

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

If the US had split into a Clinton-Gore part and a Bush part in 2000, the Clinton-Gore part would have been doing much better than the Bush part in 2008. (Look at the economic figures and compare the economic growth California, NY, etc. with Kansas, etc.)

Polarized today, yes, but also shifting demographically at pretty rapid pace.

You're getting your way. In the last 10 years the spending in Kansas has went from $14.4B to $26.6B.

Health care went from $1.9B to $5.1B (a 168% increase).
                Education went from $5.0B to $8.7B (a 74% increase).
                Welfare went from $0.7B to $2.3B (a 228% increase).

So of the $12.2B increase, those three categories cost $8.5B (70% of the reason our spending has increased).

Kansas is absolutely becoming more liberal.

This is a great question! Permission to steal, SB? I think our 49% would prosper, have a balanced budget, a fair tax code, no illegal immigrants, and would be the beginning of the end of the welfare state. RJL's world would be Cuba in a few years.

Never let it be said I don't agree with the left. This is spot on. Let's further open the borders and offer some free money and education and healthcare and subsidized housing and really instrument some change.

                      Oh wait......

Much of that had to do with the dot.com boom and military spending due to 9/11. Defense contractors in California went nuts. On the contrary, 9/11 paralyzed general aviation. But don't let facts get in the way of a good argument.

...and oh by the way, it was a Gore-Lieberman ticket in 2000, Mr. Helper. Al would've blamed 9/11 on climate change.

None of our opinions really make a substantial difference in the larger world. I usually avoid political forums because I don't care that much and because there are better uses of my time (like volleyball and basketball ;) ). To me, we're all Shocker fans and that is more important than political opinions.

You are correct. While Latinos tend to lean Democrat, they are open minded enough to vote for the candidate they most identify with. Bush did well with them against Kerry. The Republicans must move more to the center on immigration (not my opinion, just reality) and have a ticket with someone on it that relates. Otherwise we will be taking our other principles to the grave in our lifetime. Is it Marco Rubio? What about a Rubio/West ticket in 2016?
