Trump is claiming it's a politically biased witch hunt. If you look past the rhetoric here's what you will find.
The Archives asked for a return of the documents. When they didn't get them, they referred it to the FBI, where a Trump-appointed head of the FBI sought a search warrant. That was assigned to a Trump-appointed attorney in DoJ, who issued the search warrant.
The law Trump is accused of breaking is one he sent to Congress.
Trump is not being charged for the 100+ documents he returned when asked. That makes his situation different than Pence's and Biden's. Trump is being charged for breaking two laws. Possessing confidential documents after leaving office can be accidental, Refusing to return them cannot be accidental. Lying about having returned them is probably what got him prosecuted for possessing them, which is a crime under the Presidential Records Act,
I will admit to hating Donald Trump. I've hated him ever since the '80's when I was working in businesses engaged in real estate development and I studied Trump's methods because he appeared to be successful. His methods were to refuse to pay subs. When they sued him, he used the courts to drag out the suits to the point where those suing him couldn't afford to keep paying their lawyers. There was a repeated pattern of Trump not paying his subs and their claiming bankruptcy when they couldn't afford the legal battles to get paid.
If it was Liz Cheney or Mitt Romney pursuing the conservative Republican agenda I could respect their positions. Trump's position is that he is above the law and he should be the permanent leader of the country, regardless of the results of elections. January 6 pretty much confirmed that.
Trump isn't demanding political discussion, he's demanding absolute control of the government, which would be the end of democracy as we know it.
