  • One thing I think that has been revealed is that the Russian military is not as formidable, minus the nuclear option, as was once believed.

At some point they probably get it figured out unfortunately. It took them about 2 years in WWII but they eventually did it,maybe in part because Stalin brought back a lot of officers who had been sent to the Gulag.

Putin is still succeeding in destroying the Ukraine which was probably his second option if he couldn't take it quickly. I also believe that he has successfully bluffed NATO and the Biden administration. Interesting how Blinken was initially receptive to the idea of the transfer of mig-29's from Poland to the Ukraine but then the idea was scotched a short time later....maybe part of the reason due to NATO weakness on the ground in central Europe. Despite all the talk and promises NATO ground forces, particularly Germany, are still in no shape to confront Russia, the Baltic states being particularly vulnerable.

Hopefully China is taking notice that maybe theirs isn't what they think it is either.

Let’s not forget that most of Russia’s army is Soviet era tech where as most of China’s is stolen western tech.

That's true. But Russia's tech is/was based on what they could steal from the West too. Just look at their Backfire bomber vs the B1. I think the biggest unknown, but what still tilts the balance is the ability of munitions to hit their targets the first time. The U.S. has the goods. Does China?

China and Russia's milirary seems to be based on quantity over quality. And China's Navy is suspect. I know they want Taiwan, but watching Russia should give them 2nd thoughts. Especially if the U.S. gets involved. No idea what a 21st century amphibious assault looks like, but it won't be defended with MG42s and 88s from 10 miles inland. It will be guided missles that will hit the boats.

And Billions of dollars of Afghanistan finders-keepers weapons which technically isn't stolen.

              • Russia apparently used a hypersonic missile with a conventional warhead Friday or Saturday....in part probably a message for NATO.

But it probably wasn't the message that Putin hoped would be delivered.

Hypersonic research won't be approved unless the proposed propellant is 100% electric.

I would think at that speed a windmill on top would produce plenty of turbine action to produce sufficient thrust.

                          • We need to develop lasers on sattelites. Just vaporize targets from heaven.

Solar sails are supposed to be extremely fast in the vacuum of outer space, maybe they could make a "Solar Sail Ponderous-Sonic Missile".

That way no propellant would need to be used.
