  • Term limits? Sounds GREAT! All we have to do is convince Congress to introduce the bills and pass them. That is probably the hard part.

We've had politicians get elected by promising to introduce and fight for term limits. Then they get to Washington and are immediately introduced to the power structure. That campaign promise is NEVER carried out.

The other option is a Constitutional Convention, which would be an absolute **** show. If you think a lot of money was dropped on the GA Senate runoffs, you ain't seen nothin' if there was to be a Constitutional Convention. I'm confident there are multiple think tanks with detailed plans of how to get whatever special interest they represent embedded into the Constitution.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

      ...but mostly just Trump.

You've got to get away from the tribalistic thinking if you want to reach the "next level". Yes, many Dems have a different world view than many Republicans, but we are more fundamentally similar than we are different. We are all freedom-loving, red-blooded Americans regardless if we know what freedom really means. These terms "heretics", "rid"; these were installed into your mind long ago and without your permission. And the sources of political discourse you indulge in today keep this unhelpful plant alive in your mental garden. I challenge you today to unplug from the source of your political frustration, keep up with current events but find a raw source of news and come to your own conclusions. A clue as to when you're veering off the highway and back into the woods is when you find yourself back in the context of us vs. them. Find the similarities and build from there. I don't even know why I have to say this to you since you've admitted to sharing time with hyper-liberal social acquaintances. Are you seething with anger while listening to their ideologies? Use logic as your guide, and if your company is reasonably intelligent, they'll listen, and maybe even learn.

I love talking to hardcore liberals. Most will start to melt (down) though when I get into their minds and help them connect the dots. Alcohol really helps!

IMO Trump is a symbol for those that disagree. We also know from Haight’s work that the left thinks that the opposition is evil. I think they will use this to attack the ideological enemies of the left. There is anecdotal evidence that this is kicking off.

There are evil people in both parties. I'm going on a mission in 2021 to break down stereotypes and ideological roadblocks. I'm going to singlehandedly attack the political paradigm in this country and attempt to build a bridge over the chasm. I'm going to do it with reason, kindness, and alcohol... lots of alcohol. Won't you join me?

              • That's a real problem. Social media allows for the transference of information and ideas at exponentially greater speeds than just 20 years ago. One highly persuasive individual with bad intentions can infect thousands, even millions in one evening. There is not enough accountability for the power a person wields on some of these platforms. It would be the same as if your crazy neighbor was able to get a CBS camera crew out to his house any time he wanted to back in the 80's, with his rant broadcasted nationally on an endless loop.

If there isn't a serious threat of law enforcement showing up at your door moments after making an absurd online statement, then the owners of the social media platforms have to step in. We are putting our faith in Google, Apple, Facebook, YouTube, etc.

Will somebody in here really make an argument for Liberty in cases like what is detailed in the article? This is an example of regulations having to keep up with the deparavity curve of society. If you believe in stop signs, then you believe in limiting free speech for would-be terrorists. The key is separating those individuals out.

Certainly evil does not constrain itself to one ideology, but only one ideology is in power and seeks to maintain it.

I will make that argument. Hold people accountable for their actions, not the words of idle men.

If we're going to shut down speech because 100 people might storm the Capitol, then I assume it's ok to shut down gangs because they might steal and kill. And I don't know how much you look at social media, but the self named Black Twitter is so full of hate and violence it's beyond disgusting. There are some extraordinarily dangerous and moronic ideas being bantered about ........

It goes back to accountability. If you can't find a way to make bad actors accountable for their actions, then all you can do is shut down the medium by which they are carrying out their plans. Social media is vastly more powerful than the telephone for spreading poison throughout a society. The Founding Fathers had no idea what we would be facing in 2020. To offer the solution that anything goes in the name of free speech is insincere.

And no, I don't spend any time on social media. Never even heard of Black Twitter. Sounds like a porno. :P

Knowledge, reason, and alcohol is the antidote. At least that's my plan.

You know what really works! A national emergency. At that moment everybody focuses on what they share in common with their fellow man. We are no longer separate, but a family, a team, a country. That's what should have happened during Covid. But the pandemic was weaponized (no comment). 9/11 was incredibly uniting for this country. It lasted for a year or so.

An alien invasion would work too. That would unite the world in a matter of moments.

This is why we have “The Swamp”. The powerful who break laws are rarely held accountable.

Capitol police made a tactical mistake in evaluating the threat and didn't take it serious. Always err on side of caution and have overwhelming force.
