It’s moving along at a rapid pace and every effort is being made to increase that pace, but no matter the speed, it will be slower than most would like.Livin the dream

Just checking in for some stimulating debate and wanted to share a wire I came across recently:
“State health officials said they rely on a very complex set of measurements that would confuse and potentially mislead the public if they were made public.”
Are these State officials a bunch of god**mn trolls or what? Surely they don't believe the public is stupid enough to accept this? Oh, wait...
What percentage of Covid deaths happen to people with pre-existing conditions? I read it was 94%. Is that true?Last edited by ShockingButTrue; January 23, 2021, 06:24 AM.

If you tell me that getting the vaccines produced quicker would have led to issues with storage at local facilities, I will believe you. But I know that manufacturing the vaccine has not been at the rate it could have been due to the storage capacity at the facilities as they waited to ship out.

We are trying to bring two on line in McPherson in three months time. One of my responsibilities is to validate the test methods used to demonstrate quality. We have to buy instruments and validate those first. Then write protocols, execute the testing about 20 ways to demonstrate robustness, then write test methods for routine execution. This takes 6-18 months. We will be doing in 6 weeks. Guess what though? We can’t get any vaccine to execute this testing because it’s all going out the door as fast as it’s made.
One thing that might help my team is that they aren’t sure how much raw material will be available to get us going. Pfizer both manufactures it and hires other companies to manufacture it for us, and there isn’t enough LNP to go around at the moment.
We have 60 palette sized cryogenic freezers at our facility. Each one holds about 10k doses. This is for freezing only, not storage. Once frozen we pack them off in smaller coolers that will keep the vaccine viable for 2-3 weeks. at any distribution center.
This is all comlex and time sensitive, but we are still able to administer 800K doses everyday in the US.
From a science, manufacturing, and logistics perspective combined, this level of success has never been achieved in history. Really amazing stuff!Livin the dream

Oh no, the demorats aren't politicizing the pandemic at all right? Now all of a sudden when Trump is no longer president, blue cities are magically allowing restaurants to re-open.

Several U.S. cities and states have announced plans to lift restrictions on indoor dining at bars and restaurants – in moves that come less than week after a change at the White House.
Several U.S. cities and states have announced plans to lift restrictions on indoor dining at bars and restaurants – in moves that come less than week after a change at the White House.
The lifting of local-level restrictions – many of them in blue states -- was expected to give local economies a boost during the early days of the Biden administration following months of business-strangling shutdowns while President Trump was in charge.

Great interview! Dr. Fauci is really coming into his own after the alternate reality shackles he was forced to wear by the previous administration have been removed. Just listening to him call out the "sad people" who continue to delude themselves about the situation makes one ask, "What if we'd have had a normal, science-believing administration..." I'm sure we would have led the world in the Covid effort, like everyone expected us to.

“I didn’t want to be at odds with the president because I have a lot of respect for the office of the presidency, but there was conflict at different levels with different people and different organizations and a lot of pressure being put on to do things that just are not compatible with the science,” he said.
“It’s a real aberrancy,” he later added. “This is my seventh administration, Rachel, and I’ve been advising administrations and presidents on both sides of the aisle, Republicans and Democrats, people with different ideologies, and even with differences in ideology, there never was this real affront on science. So it really was an aberrancy that I haven’t seen in almost 40 years that I’ve been doing this. So it’s just one of those things that is chilling when you see it happen."
The remarks are just the latest from Fauci indicating his relief to be working under President Biden.

Well thought out and rational. Need to see more of this. California's outdoor dining ban may have led to spike in cases according to this Dr. and infectious disease expert.
Newsom's order on December 3 quickly shut down outdoor dining statewide, just days after Los Angeles had implemented its own ban, despite officials admitting there was no evidence.
'Restrictions should be about understanding the human condition and keeping places that are safe open,' said Gandhi. 'Those of us who argue for a harm reduction approach have the same goal as the lockdownists: We want to reduce transmission, but we understand the human condition and the need to be with people.'
In California, as elsewhere, there is reason to believe that harsh restrictions on public gatherings have driven social activity underground.

Of course, no comment from the peanut gallery. I wonder why? Because it destroys his whole argument from the last 10 months.Deuces Valley.

We may both be right. The storage is an issue. Ramping up manufacturing is an issue. Distribution is an issue. All this is related to supply chain issues. And they may well have it fixed by March, but the obvious truth here is that the prior administration set a goal of having 20 million people vaccinated by the end of the year and fell woefully short. We were told that vaccines would be available and they are not.
And now the medical experts are telling us we won't have herd immunity until next fall, so somewhere along the way, we lost what would seem like to me would be three months.
I don't think you are going to see critical mass reached until sometime in late March or early April, and then it will be an additional 3-6 months before people who want a vaccine can get one.
Now I'm worried about whether I'm going to have to get a hair cut when the weather gets hot and will still be waiting for a shot. I have been growing it out as a protest and it's getting really long. It will be uncomfortable this summer if we are still in the middle of this pandemic mess.
