  • I don't know if I need to clarify, but I will. I do acknowledge that there can be value in trying to understand and get into the mind of those who commit evil. I know there's been a lot of work in studying serial killers and such for that reason. Maybe it helps find the next one quicker than you would without it. Maybe they can find that value and some of those key details to look for to be better at addressing these things or maybe helping these people before they reach the breaking point. I don't know.

I just don't personally care about them or care to do much research into them myself. They don't deserve that attention from me or the average Joe.

What loop holes are you talking about?

      Pre-crime.

How would this be accomplished and what would be the guidelines?

So you are proposing a solution that you admit is actually not solution.

Why does in your world a background check need to take 7 or even 10 days. Background checks are almost instantaneous. You are either eligible or you are not. What does the 7 or 10 days buy you? Do you think the Government is going to allocate an FBI agent to go to your neighbors and interview them?

How does anything you proposed solve the issue of government incompetence?
You are completely overblowing everything I stated to continue the argument. I am not approaching this from any angle of the mouthpiece left democrats have approached it. Nevertheless, I see no benefit in continuing this back and forth. You have your opinion, I have mine. I am not arguing for any of the extreme measures some of the progressive left is clamoring for. Have a great Memorial Day Weekend.

Not blaming anyone but our woefully inept politicians. Maybe ashamed wasn't the right choice of words but don't get all ruffled there with your assumptions.
Words matter. You said "We" and "ashamed". I can only take you at your word.

I am not responsible for what happened and I am not ashamed.

I don't know exactly what the solution is but I know its not pointing fingers.
Well the politicians don't know the solution either and that why they point fingers. Because they don't want people looking at them. But it actually clear what the problem in this country is (to me at least).

The majority of people in this country do not fear God.

        2 TIM 3 1-4

But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,

The solution is for the country to confess their sins and repent and walk with the Lord.

I think resources need to be put into mental health treatments and in particular identifying early signs in youth.I think that is the single biggest root cause of this madness.
I agree a significant amount of resources needs to be allocated in mental health. It is not the root cause, but the symptom of a society that turns to mind-altering drugs (alcohol and drugs) and has no hope.

Also, apparently police need to be trained to get their a$$es in to the building when there is an active shooter.
Actually, they are trained that way in most jurisdictions. Not sure what happened here, but I'm sure we will find out and it will be another mind-boggling excuse.

          • Yesterday, Barack Obama wrote and published the dumbest tweet in the history of Twitter. The former president stood George Floyd on the dead bodies of 19 slaughtered children. “As we grieve the children of Uvalde today, we should take the time to recognize that two years have passed since the murder...

            • When I was in the military we had M-16 rifles. You could flip a switch and make it fully automatic (think; machine gun, rat-a-tat-tat-tat). Today in the civilian world, there is a rifle called the AR-15. It looks very much like the M-16, but it is not fully automatic. It's not. With the civilian AR-15, if you pull the trigger, it shoots a bullet. Pull the trigger again, it shoots another bullet. It's a rifle, nothing more.

              • Off the cuff...

Raise conscription age to 20. Exception for 17 years with signed permission from one parent/legal guardian.

Strong arm every state to raise firearm purchase age to 21 (maybe exclude Alaska, Wyoming, etc). Firearms can be gifted to under 21 only by a parent/legal guardian, but must be purchased by parent/legal guardian.

Background checks on gun purchases shall include juvenile record background checks until you are 30(?).

Background checks on adults shall include background checks on all juveniles living at the same residence.

Kids under 21 can only possess firearms on private property, firing ranges, competitions, or public hunting grounds (hunting requires a license). Transportation of firearms to/from said properties must be done with a parent.

All public school staff and airline staff are eligible for concealed and/or open carry with a proper background check.

Anyone that sells or provides someone under 21 a gun that is used in a murder conviction is automatically accessory to that murder.

                  • Why don’t they just make a law that killing people is illegal. That will stop it.

                    • Authorities investigating if retired federal agent knew of Buffalo mass shooting plans in advance

Law enforcement officers are investigating whether a retired federal agent had about 30 minutes advance notice of a white supremacist's plans to murder Black people at a Buffalo supermarket, two law enforcement officials told The Buffalo News.

Authorities believe the former agent – believed to be from Texas – was one of at least six individuals who regularly communicated with accused gunman Payton Gendron in an online chat room where racist hatred was discussed, the two officials said.

The two law enforcement sources with direct knowledge of the investigation stated these individuals were invited by Gendron to read about his mass shooting plans and the target location about 30 minutes before Gendron killed 10 people at Tops Markets on Jefferson Avenue on May 14.

“These were like-minded people who used this chat group to talk about their shared interests in racial hatred, replacement theory and hatred of anyone who is Jewish, a person of color or not of European ancestry,” said one of the two law enforcement officials with close knowledge of the investigation. “What is especially upsetting is that these six people received advanced notice of the Buffalo shooting, about 30 minutes before it happened.

“The FBI has verified that none of these people called law enforcement to warn them about the shooting. The FBI database shows no advance tips from anyone that this shooting was about to happen.”

Agents from the FBI are in the process of tracking down and interviewing the six people, including the retired agent, and attempting to determine if any of them should be charged as accomplices, the two sources with close knowledge of the probe told The Buffalo News.

                      • 'Good Gal With a Gun' Saves Many Lives in What Could Have Been Mass Casualty Event

Dennis Butler, 37, was warned about speeding near a party where children were present in an apartment complex. Then Butler reportedly returned with an AR-15 and began shooting. It was a recipe for a disaster; there were dozens of people at the party and a lot of people could have been hurt or killed. But a woman who was a guest at the party was lawfully carrying a pistol. She pulled it, fired, and took down Butler. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds and later died.

“Instead of running from the threat, she engaged with the threat and saved several lives last night,” Charleston Police Lieutenant Tony Hazelett confirmed. “She was lawfully carrying a firearm and stopped a threat. There was a graduation party and a party with kids so obviously someone just graduated high school and we could have had a casualty shooting.”

It turns out that Butler also had a long criminal history. Because of the woman’s actions, no one was hurt. Hazelett said there would be no charges against her, given the situation.

                        • Media and politicians have been mentioning the large number of shootings for 2022, many using the stats at https://www.gunviolencearchive.org/r.../mass-shooting, which counts a mass shooting as any shooting where more than 4 people were either killed or wounded and as of today, lists 216 shootings. You can download a file with the stats, so I did that and took a look at things.

When you listen to the media, you would think each of the shootings had mass casualties, but only two had double digit casualties - the one in Buffalo with 10 and the one in Ulvade. There were 81 shootings where no one was killed and another 83 where only one person was killed.

You can break things down by state and city as well. Kansas has one entry on the list, but California and Texas have the most, while Chicago leads the cities. Also, on the web site, each entry has a description of the shooting and sources, such as news articles about the shooting.

                          • This study (November 2018) on mass shootings covering the period from 1998 through 2015 is a bit dated. Would nice to see what this looks like on an updated basis:

New CPRC Research: Mass Public Shootings are much higher in the rest of the world and increasing much more quickly

                            https://crimeresearch.org/2018/11/ne...-more-quickly/

The U.S. is well below the world average in terms of the number of mass public shootings, and the global increase over time has been much bigger than for the United States.

Over the 18 years from 1998 to 2015, our list contains 2,354 attacks and at least 4,880 shooters outside the United States and 53 attacks and 57 shooters within our country. The data for the first sixteen years of this period was published in a peer-reviewed journal available here.

By our count, the US makes up less than 1.1% of the mass public shooters, 1.49% of their murders, and 2.20% of their attacks. All these are much less than the US’s 4.6% share of the world population. Attacks in the US are not only less frequent than other countries, they are also much less deadly on average.

Out of the 97 countries where we have identified mass public shootings occurring, the United States ranks 64th in the per capita frequency of these attacks and 65th in the murder rate.

That said this is clearly a problem that needs to be addressed especially as it concerns hardening the schools. But we should study any solutions wherever developed that seem to be effective.
