A couple interesting things on Friday related to the San Francisco Giants. Their skipper, Gabe Kapler, wrote a blog post on his web site that he was "not okay with the state of the country". Kapler, who's nickname is 'Kap', told reporters before the game at Cincinnati, that's he's not going to take the field for the national anthem until he feels "better about the direction of our country". Here's the full story - https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/...valde-shooting

Also, before the game while the teams were taking batting practice, a player from the Reds, Tommy Pham, slapped a player from the Giants, Joc Pederson. Later on, Pederson told reporters it stemmed from a beef Pham had with him going back to their fantasy football league - https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/gi...ntasy-football

Bobby Witt Jr almost hit for the cycle last night - just missed out by not hitting a double. He and MJ Melendez have been playing pretty good lately and this article makes a good case that the Royals should bring up a couple more of the AAA guys - https://www.mlb.com/news/bobby-witt-...in-royals-loss

He struggled hitting early on in the season, but he's doing pretty good now. Combined with his defense and speed, he's the total package. If he keeps it up, he'll be the favorite for rookie of the year. And hopefully he can stay healthy - I imagine he's the type of player most were hoping to see out of Mondesi.

Heard on the radio the other day that the Royals are 0-19 this year when they trail after the first inning. Hopefully they can break that streak. They seem to catch up sometimes and even take the lead in the mid-innings, but then the bullpen walks a lot of batters and they end up losing.

Here is a neat story though on one of the relief pitchers they called up this week. He struck out the first guy he faced and then the next two grounded out back to the pitcher.

I apparently have not been keeping up with MLB baseball like I thought I had.

Just looked at the starting lineups for the KC/Baltimore game. Of the 18 players in starting lineup, 12 are hitting less than .240 with 9 of them under .230. KC is starting a pitcher (Bubic) that has STARTED 6 of the 7 games he's pitched in, but has only thrown a total of 18 innings with an ERA over 9.00.

The Cardinals and Rays played today, both having a good winning %, with the Rays starting 4 players under .200 + 1 at .217 and the Cardinals having 4 players at .215 or under.

The Yanks and Twins are leading their divisions. They started 7 players at or under .240.

It is all about the long ball any more. Batting average doesn't matter in today's advance metric baseball.

It'll be interesting to see if this guy makes it to the majors - he could be a valuable weapon if he can pitch good from either side -

Is he any relation to Peter Lemongelo, replacement behind the scenes director for the Farnsworth Ministry Television show?

I take it Fletch Lives was on tv recently :) Interestingly, in real life, Peter's cousin, Mark, was a MLB pitcher but had a bad temper, ended his career playing for the Wichita Aeros, and later along with another Aeros player, was arrested for kidnapping and robbing Peter - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Lemongello

There was a baseball brawl on Sunday afternoon between the Mariners and Angels. Not just the type where the players talk and hold each other back, but the type where punches are actually thrown. Both managers and six players were ejected from the game. Plenty of videos about it on YouTube, the the one below shows what some felt sparked things, which was the Mariner pitcher throwing at Mike Trout the night before. On Sunday, the Angels decided to use one of their relievers as the starter and he threw at the head of one of the Mariners in the first inning (30 secs into video). Benches are warned and then an inning later, the Angels pitcher hits another batter and gets ejected. The batter, Winker, starts jawing with the Angels dugout (2 mins into video) and they start fighting and throwing punches. Kind of calms down and then flares back up (about 3:33 in the video) and then things finally settles down. As Winker heads back to the bench he gives the Angels fans the double bird (4:45 in the video). Almost starts back up later while the umps are talking when one of the Angels players throws a box of sunflower seeds onto the field (9:40 in the video and 11:30 in the video) and yells at Winker, but the players hold them back. Angels ended up winning 2-1.

The most hilarious thing (not in the video) was the dude from Seattle coming back out of the dugout and throwing an entire crate of peanuts on the field.
