Pretty neat story regarding former Royals player Brett Phillips last night. He was the catcher for the first pitch from a 8 year girl who's battling cancer. During the game, the tv crew was interviewing the girl and Phillips came up and hit a home run. After the game they interviewed Phillips on the field and he mentioned the girl. Here's a link to the story and it has videos of the interviews - https://www.mlb.com/news/brett-phill...d-by-young-fan

Roberts is managing for 162 games and the post season. Blowing up your ace in April on his 2nd start is not the way to think long term.

That said, Nolan Ryan would NOT have come out of that game!
Nolan Ryan was 40 years ago.............and Kershaw ought to be playing for a 162 game season also.......and probably is

Anheuser-Busch is partnering with MLB to promote recycling - https://www.prnewswire.com/news-rele...301523674.html

With Major League Baseball season officially underway, more than ten teams – including The St. Louis Cardinals, Houston Astros, San Diego Padres, Texas Rangers, and Washington Nationals – have signed on as inaugural members of the National Recycling League.
In addition to in-stadium activations throughout regular season games, select partner teams will compete head-to-head in a new way as the brewer calls on MLB fans to join the National Recycling League and recycle their bottles and cans, with the winning city getting a round of beer on Anheuser-Busch. The city of the participating team which has the highest recycling rate during home games from Opening Day through May 31 will get a round of beer on Anheuser-Busch in celebration of their commitment to reducing waste on game day. More information is available at www.mycooler.com/recyclelikeachampion
Also, the Astros ballpark will have an Amazon cashier-free store called Just Walk Out (https://justwalkout.com/) - https://techcrunch.com/2022/04/13/am...eball-stadium/

19th Hole and Market, two food and beverage stands at the Astros’ home stadium, will use Just Walk out, which relies on A.I., sensors and computer vision to allow customers to shop without checking out, avoiding long checkout lines. Here’s how it works: Customers insert their credit cards into the gates when entering the store. By picking up an item, customers add it to their virtual cart. They can place it back on the shelf to remove it from their virtual cart. Customers don’t need to check out; when they leave the store, their credit cards will be automatically charged for any items they took. Attendants will be available at the stores to help with shopping and customers do have to show ID to an attendant in order to purchase alcohol.

SNL did a spoof on Amazon's cashier-free stores last month - it's not related to the ballpark but Amazon has been putting them up all over the country -

Looks like next year MLB teams will be allowed to sell ads on uniforms - https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/...-deal-motorola

The March 10 memorandum of understanding for a new collective bargaining agreement between MLB and the players' association gave the 30 teams the right to sell patch ads on uniforms and sticker ads on helmets.
MLB decided to launch the uniform ads with the 2023 season and said it may start the helmet ads with this year's postseason.
Maybe the Royals will put ads for Jungle Law on their uniforms :) If you haven't watched any Royals games or listened to them on the radio, you may not know about Jungle Law, but they seem to run an ad about every inning on games on tv and every so often on the radio during the game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwTOWVwMIis

              - The Washington Nationals had a pre-game thing for military appreciation day where US Army paratroopers jumped into the stadium. The US Capitol was evacuated at the time though because the FAA failed to tell the Capitol police about and they thought the plane was a threat - https://www.cbsnews.com/news/capitol...arachute-show/

              - Miguel Cabrera is going for hit number 3,000 this afternoon. He's one of the few bright spots for the Tigers - their defense isn't good at times as seen at https://twitter.com/Baseball8754021/...51632200237058

The batter in the video in Josh Donaldson, who seems to be on a new team every year and now plays for the Yankees

Kids, this is why you are always running on a full count with 2 outs!

I imagine the pitcher was probably thinking, 'wait, am I suppose to catch a popup? everyone tells me not to do that' :)

An update on Cabrera, he didn't get to 3000 today. The Yankees intentionally walked him in the 8th to load the bases in a 1-0 game and the next hitter hit a 2 run double and the Tigers held on to win 3-0. The fans were upset the Yankees walked him, but the next 3 Tigers games are at home, so he'll get 3000 in Detroit still.

Court Denies Yankees’ Appeal to Keep Sign-Stealing Letter Sealed - https://www.si.com/mlb/2022/04/21/co...-letter-sealed

The Yankees have been trying to block the release of a letter they received from the commissioner regarding cheating that's been part of a lawsuit, but a judge on Thursday said the letter can be made public and it's expected to be released in the next couple weeks. People are wondering what's in the letter because the Yankees have been trying hard to keep it sealed.

The Yankees’ case was based on the idea that unsealing the letter would harm the team’s reputation from a previous lawsuit in which it was not a part of. Daily fantasy sports players filed a $5 million lawsuit in March against MLB and the Red Sox alleging that Manfred withheld information from the public about MLB’s 2017 investigation involving Apple Watches being used to steal signs. The commissioner sent a letter to the Yankees that stated additional information about the league’s findings.

The letter, according to the Post, states that the Yankees improperly used a dugout phone in a season before 2017, and some players positioned themselves in the team’s replay room seeking to steal the opponents’ signs and relay that information to runners on second base.

The Royals are going to do a different uniform through the season that has become popular with other teams, including the Wind Surge.

The theme of the jersey and hat is the City of Fountains. The Royals' iconic “KC” logo has been re-envisioned with a font that looks like a fountain. It’s found on the hats and with a crown inside the design on the left chest of the jerseys.

The dark blue jerseys with a white and powder blue stripe on the sleeves also have the number on the right-side front of the jersey. An “R” with a crown on top is on the right sleeve.

The Royals will debut the City Connect jerseys this Saturday, April 30, at Kauffman Stadium. They will be worn every game through May 4. Then they will be worn for every Friday home game for the rest of the season.

I do not like the new Friday uniforms for the Royals.

Some ugly fan stuff at Yankee stadium. The fans in the outfield got into it with the Cleveland outfields in the 9th and then threw a bunch of trash on the field after the game ended. Here's a breakdown of what happened in the bottom of the 9th (warning - strong language by the narrator) - https://twitter.com/Jomboy_/status/1518087626783440898 - the video is several minutes, so jump to 50 seconds to see where it starts with the outfielders and fans and to 4:10 to the winning hit and the fans starting to throw trash

FYI - the Jomboy twitter and youtube channel are pretty good. He became well known when he did the breakdown of how the Astros were cheating.

Yeah I cringe any time he's behind the plate during a Royals game. Seems like the announcers have to be careful what they say during the game about the strike zone.

The whole uniform stuff seems like a way to bring in more revenue in overpriced jerseys they sell fans :)
