Mets were down 7-1 entering the 9th in Philly last night and ended up scoring 7 runs and winning the game. The last 4 runs all came with 2 outs -

Brings back memories of one of the most memorable games in 2016 (May 28) for the Royals when they did something similar vs the White Sox. The Royals were the home team and down 7-1 in the 9th, but came back and won.

It also happened to be Wichita State day at the K -

Yeah, the Mets are a good team. There's been talk of maybe a subway world series this year between the Yankees and Mets. Too early to tell, but they are two of the best teams in baseball right now.

It's been a rough year so far for the Reds - they have the worst record in the league at 3-22. Turns out the fans can't catch a break either (here's the background of the fan and what's become known as the 'dump truck' - https://www.citybeat.com/arts/cincin...undra-13089485) :)

My wife and I were there that day. What a great comeback. The Royals had 3 comeback victories in that series and we were there for two of them and watched the one Friday night on TV.

The Royals should try the old 'fall at first to distract the pitcher' play given their struggles to score runs - https://twitter.com/JomboyMedia/stat...16760417779712

Here's a good tweet thread about the Automated Ball Strike system that they're trying out in some AAA leagues this year - https://twitter.com/Josh_Suchon/stat...34642514747392 - the author was at a game this week that used it.

Also, here is a good site that shows how major league umps do at calling balls and strikes at each game - https://www.umpscorecards.com/games/ and https://twitter.com/UmpScorecards

Today was part 2 of Tim Anderson of the White Sox vs Josh Donaldson of the Yankees. Last week in Chicago the benches cleared when Anderson was on 3rd base and the Yankees tried to pick him off after a strikeout - https://twitter.com/TalkinYanks/stat...76916911161345 - and Donaldson pushed him off the base. Today the teams were playing in New York and Anderson and Donaldson started jawing at each other at the end of the 3rd inning - https://twitter.com/TalkinYanks/stat...80562476486658 - and when Donaldson came up to bat in the 5th, the White Sox catcher started in on Donaldson and the benches cleared with Anderson having to be restrained - https://twitter.com/MLBONFOX/status/1528089571807748096

After the game, White Sox manager Tony La Russa said Donaldson had made a racial comment to Anderson earlier in the game but wouldn't say what was said. Anderson told reporters Donaldson had called him 'Jackie' and Donaldson told reporters he said 'what's up Jackie'. Donaldson said he's called Anderson that before as an inside joke due to an interview Anderson gave in 2019 where he talked about being like Jackie Robinson. More details about the whole thing can be found at https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/t...hite-sox-star/

MLB is investigating the incident. The White Sox and Yankees play a double header on Sunday and it wouldn't be surprising to see another benches clearing thing Sunday afternoon.

                              - White Sox and Yankees avoided any brawls on Sunday. Tim Anderson didn't play in the first game and Josh Donaldson didn't play in the second game. I imagine MLB probably told the teams to do that because MLB would probably like to put the whole thing behind them. There are no more games scheduled between the two teams this year, but both will probably make the playoffs and could meet there.

                              - the season is basically at the 1/4 mark with most teams having played at least 40 games. Yankees have the best record in the AL and Mets in the NL. The Reds have the worst record with only 12 wins, followed by 3 teams with only 14 wins, including the Royals.

                              - the Royals blow a 6 run lead in the last 2 innings on Sunday. Brady Singer pitched a shutout through 7 innings and the Royals were up 6-0 at home heading to the 8th. But the bullpen gave up 5 runs in the 8th and 2 more in the 9th and the Royals end up losing 7-6. Royals replaced their hitting coach a few days back and it may be time to give the pitching coach his walking papers as well.

It's long past time for Cal to take a hike. I can't recall anyone on the pitching staff really making any positive progress under him.
