FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) – Some folks aren’t willing to wait for the federal government’s green light to get a booster shot of the COVID-19 vaccine, it seems.
A Centers for Disease Control report obtained by ABC News found an estimated 1.1 million have gotten an unauthorized third shot of Pfizer or Moderna already. The agency believes that number is even higher in reality, because the estimate doesn’t include those who got the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, then one dose of an mRNA vaccine.
The most third doses were administered in Florida, Ohio, California, Illinois and Tennessee, according to the CDC document.

Starting Wednesday, a third shot of the COVID-19 vaccine will be available to some in Sedgwick County. Only people with certain medical conditions that weaken the immune system will be able to get the third dose at this point.
On a more serious note: they're using the "honor system" at the old public library (no booster-qualifying documentation), but it's Pfizer only. Gotta bring your vaccination card too.
IMO it's much easier to go to a Wal-Mart and just say you are there for a Covid vaccination. When they ask if you've gotten the shot before, the correct answer if you want to receive the booster is: no.

Millions of unused Covid-19 vaccines are set to go to waste as demand dwindles across the U.S. and doses likely expire this summer, according to public health officials.
Alabama is one of the states throwing away COVID-19 doses as they expire. But other nations desperately need vaccines — and public health experts would like to see vaccines used instead of wasted.
Now that a majority of Canadians have been fully vaccinated, pharmacists and health-care providers face a new challenge: finding enough people to sign up for a dose before their supply expires.
Pharmacies in Ontario looking to transfer supplies as thousands of doses of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine are set to expire on Friday.
Doctors explain that when a vial is opened to administer a shot, the remaining 5-6 doses in that container could go to waste. But the direction is, "get that shot in the arms even it means that you are not going to be able to use the whole vial."
Wealthy countries, including the UK, have secured hundreds of millions of covid vaccines that they no longer need or cannot use. Now they stand accused of wasting lifesaving vaccines, reports Jane Feinmann In late July 2021, US states were reported to be sitting on around 26 million unused doses of covid vaccines, enough to protect 13.1 million people, including a significant tranche of Pfizer doses due to expire in August.1 “We’re drowning in this stuff. It’s starting to get a bit silly,” said Robert Ator, a retired US colonel who leads on the vaccine distribution drive in Arkansas, speaking to the Stat health news website. Meanwhile, Canada,2 Germany, Israel,3 Lithuania, Poland,4 and Romania have all discarded vaccines that had passed their expiry date. The UK faces a similar problem. At the end of July reports emerged of 170 000 doses of Moderna vaccine that were at risk of expiry within a fortnight. NHS doctors have also reported thousands of Pfizer and Moderna shots being discarded.5 And new, independent data passed to The BMJ by the life science analytics company Airfinity show that the problem is even more serious. The UK has bought 467 million doses of covid vaccines due to be delivered in 2021. Like every high income country, the UK hedged its bets by placing orders before the vaccines gained approval, but it now has around seven vaccine doses per capita, says Caroline Casey, lead analyst at Airfinity. She explains, “That means the UK government will have 219 million surplus doses in 2021, assuming that 80% of all over 16s are vaccinated, with boosters given to high risk groups from the end of September 2021. “Once the government has given away the 30 million it’s pledged to donate [to other countries], that still leaves a …
As of August 2, the state said 51,750 doses had expired before use. But that's less than 1% of the more than 7.6 million total doses state providers have received.
Just 59% of eligible Iowans have been fully vaccinated, but the state has started to throw away expiring vaccine for lack of demand.
In India, only 8.3% of the population is fully vaccinated, while Sudan, Myanmar, and Ethiopia all have blank spaces beside their names in that category.
“It’s unfortunate when we have such a low vaccination rate, and of course there’s still so many people in the world that don’t have access, so that’s really a shame," Dr. Scott Harris said Friday,
There has been an increase in the number of people getting vaccinated in the last few weeks. Vaccine providers hope its enough to lessen the waste.
Iowa has tossed out tens of thousands of expired COVID-19 vaccine doses and could toss out hundreds of thousands more if demand for the vaccine continues to lag in the state, health officials said.

Mixed and unreliable information coming out of FDA, IdiotFauciIdiot and the Dumb Dumb in Chief. Shocking. Gee, I wonder why people have such a tough time believing and trusting the government?
Reports that Food and Drug Administration officials plan to step down over the White House’s COVID-19 booster shot guidance have created a “mess” for the Biden administration, according to Dr. Mark Siegel.
"It’s a combination of things where the messaging is coming out of the White House and not of the FDA, and also out of the NIH with Tony Fauci and Dr. Francis Collins has said, ‘Hey, we might have the vaccines for the 5 to 11 year olds in a couple of months’ … well, FDA hasn’t reviewed the data yet," Siegel explained. "And with the boosters, the president himself said, ‘We’re going to get boosters in a month,’ and the FDA says, ‘Wait, we haven’t reviewed the data yet.’"

vac·cine
/vakˈsēn/
noun- a substance used to stimulate the production of antibodies and provide immunity against one or several diseases, prepared from the causative agent of a disease, its products, or a synthetic substitute, treated to act as an antigen without inducing the disease.
"every year the flu vaccine is modified to deal with new strains of the virus"
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.
