WBJ - Popular Wichita restaurant The Artichoke preps for opening on east side
The former Wendy's space in the Terra-Cotta Tower, which covers 2,950 square feet, has a "much larger kitchen," Rutledge said.
While some catering will still happen out of the Midtown location, most is now expected to take place from the east side.
.....
The Artichoke Sandwichbar East will have a few notable differences from the original location. In addition to a patio that can serve 32 people, the inside can seat 90 customers. The Midtown Artichoke can seat 76 total.
On top of its normal menu, the east location will have expanded offerings for dinner, including bangers and mash and other Irish-themed items suited for sit-down meals.
"We're known for being a lunch spot downtown... I think we'll have a lot more of a dinner crowd on the east side," said Rutledge, though she noted grab-and-go sandwiches could also be a hit for office workers in Terra-Cotta.

I've never made it to The Artichoke, but with a much closer east side location that may be remedied down the road. Also, I love me some good bangers and mash.

If you're a Planet Sub fan, better hurry before it's too late.
Wichita by EB - Wichita's last remaining Planet Sub will permanently close next week
Wichita, we want to thank you for a wonderful 10 years here.
However: Due to rising costs and staffing shortages, we regretfully are closing the last Planet Sub location in the Wichita Metro Area. Our last day of business will be Friday, May 31st, 2024. We will be open daily from 10:30 am until 9pm. We will be closed all day on Memorial Day to let our remaining staff have a day with their families.
If you have white gift cards, they will work at any other Planet Sub Location with the exception of the store in Emporia, Kansas. If you still have one of the Black gift cards, those are only able to be used at the Emporia, Kansas location.
We will be unable to do catering and will not be doing any delivery orders during this time. We appreciate all the wonderful guests we have had through the years, and want to say thank you for letting us be a part of your community of restaurants.

WBJ - Hawaiian Bros announces its first location in Wichita with one more to come
Hawaiian Bros will open in Wichita sometime this fall on the east side.
Ohana Restaraunt Group, which signed agreements with Hawaiian Bros to explore the Wichita region in May 2023, announced Tuesday that the Kansas City-based restaurant will open its first location in the Plazzio retail and entertainment center near the corner of 13th and Greenwich Road, just west of Chicken N Pickle.
“We believe the unique flavors and fast-casual dining experience offered by Hawaiian Bros will be a perfect fit for the Wichita community," said Zach Fugate, co-owner of Ohana Restaurant Group, in a news release. "We are confident that residents will embrace the Hawaiian plate lunch concept and can't wait to open our doors and share a taste of the islands with our friends, family, and neighbors here."

I'm not a huge fan of the other food at Carlos O'Kellys. That said, I could live off of the queso, guac, salsa, and margarita chicken fajitas. There used to be plenty of chicken to feed two, so at around $7 each it was among the best deals in town.Shocker fan for life after witnessing my first game in person, the 80-74 win over the #12 Creighton Bluejays at the Kansas Coliseum.

WBJ - Wichita plans for Mahomes-backed Whataburger franchisee on hold for now
It's one of the most-anticipated national brand arrivals Wichita has seen in recent years.
But Wichitans are going to have to wait a while longer for their first Whataburger.
Jay Battle, chief operating officer for Whataburger franchisee KMO Burger, confirmed Tuesday to the WBJ that the group's plans to grow into Wichita are on hold until at least 2026, if not 2027.
"We're not expanding as fast as we originally were," said Battle, whose group counts Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes as an investor. "We still have every intention to be in Wichita. It just worked out where it's not as fast as we thought it could be."
Originally, KMO Burger had targeted 2024 for its first Wichita opening, or potentially as late as 2025.

This is going to disappoint a lot of people. Originally expected to see our first Wichita area Whataburger late this year and now it's looking like 2027 may be the earliest it arrives.

My fast food burgers will generally come from Wendy's, unless I happen to find myself near a Freddy's. I think those are the two best fast food burger chains we have here personally. I do think Whataburger would come in and compete with them more than falling down to say a McDonald's. Not that McDonald's sucks, it just is what it is.
Now, if we ever get In-N-Out, I'll be in heaven.
