UPDATE: UTEP Athletic Director Bob Stull releases statement
"Keitha was one of my first hires and has been with us for 16 years. She has done an absolutely unbelievable job. We hate to see her...
I guess the fact that she is already in the UTEP Hall of Fame attests to that.
WICHITA, Kan. -- Keitha Adams has been named the Head Women's Basketball Coach at Wichita State University, Director of Athletics Darron Boatright announced tonight.
Welcome home Coach Keitha. Wishing you all the success in the world as Shocker.
I'm actually pleasantly surprised with the quality of this hire. I sure hope it works out well for Coach Keitha and for the Lady Shockers.
Hopefully, we will see a positive impact from Coach Keitha fairly quickly.

This has Linda Hargroves fingerprints all over this hire. Linda has National and Olympic connections, both are from the Winfield/Arkansas City area, and I think both are Southwestern graduates. That is not necessarily a bad thing, but it seems obvious that DB gave Linda a large role, perhaps a larger role than he indicated when he hired her as an interim coach.

I don't know how good a hire this is but we will see. To draw a valid comparison, Jane Albright had a lot of success at Northern Illinois and Wisconsin but she was not as good the final years at Wisconsin and she followed it up in her final years at WSU and Nevada.
Wisconsin 161-107
Wichita State and Nevada 165-260
Not gonna lie, I'm only disappointed in the fact that it wasn't who I was hoping for, but if we're going to judge this hiring compared to the hiring of Todd Butler, obviously this hire is much, much better. Only time will tell how she does. She's definitely got a tough hill to climb, and I think it would be great if she could get some local flavor back into WSU women's basketball. There are 2, actually 3 players in mind that I would love to see transfer out of their current schools and come to WSU. With Keitha's local ties, I think if anybody has a chance, it's her. Again, time will tell, but I might actually go to a few games next season, just to see how it goes.

Yeah, you just never know. On the other had UTEP had not done much at all in WBB and Keitha did a nice job of raising that program to new heights. But it's like hiring an investment manager. Past performance does not guarantee future results but you feel a lot better with someone who has a positive track record.

Neither had Wisconsin prior to Albright. Is Adams, like Albright a good coach in the right situation, but more of a retread on her way down or an experienced coach who has experienced recent downs and about to experience another peak.

And by recent downs we mean one bad season. The season prior UTEP set a school record with 29 wins, won the CUSA regular season title, and cracked the top 25 poll.

Look people. I hope she's successful here but it's not a slam dunk hire in my opinion. She has won a lot during her career. She is a legend and HOFamer. She's toward the end of her career and she has lost a lot of games too. Her average Wins/Losses at UTEP is 17.6 and 13.1. The Women's game has been more like the Wild West, similar to the college baseball game and like Gene Stephenson, it was easier to build reputations and make your mark if willing to work hard. The game is changing and I hope that KA is still motivated to build a down program in an era where youth may be an advantage.
I hope so, but implying that wasn't the point of my post. I really have no idea how she will do. I just felt that the phrasing of "recent downs" might be misunderstood by those not familiar with her records in recent years.
