We don't really know who all is on their list and who all they have contacted. They may very well have interviewed more than just the two Coaches mentioned so far (Lane Lord and Keitha Adams).

Just like the pool of quality basketball players in women's basketball is not anywhere nearly as deep as it is in men's basketball the pool of quality coaches available to Wichita State is not as deep either.

Jim Schaus was considered a guru when it came to making quality coaching hires. Yet he struck out twice with Shocker women's basketball and twice with Shocker softball. It's a bit of a crap shoot.

It's possible that Keitha Adams is just using this to squeeze a little more money out of UTEP. They seem to think pretty highly of her so they may not be willing to let her go without a bit of a fight.

You might be on to something there. However, if that is the case, she sure picked a lousy season to try and do that. I would think you'd want to do that after a 23-8 season, not an 8-23 season. But as I mentioned previously, I'm biased and I really want it to be Lane Lord or John Ontjes. Not that I won't give our new coach a chance if it's not one of those 2, but I do hope they both get their chance at some point.

I guess we're in a wait and see now.

I don't think UTEP is too concerned about one down year considering Keitha Adams long-term record at their school. Hiring women's basketball coaches seems to be a crap shoot at best and the coaching carousel is not nearly as active in women's basketball as it is in men's basketball. The pressure to win is there but not like it is in the men's games. The financial impact simply on a totally different plane of existence.

The reason Jody Adams is no longer the head coach at Wichita State has little, if anything, to do with her teams' on court (game) performance. It was seemingly other issues of an interpersonal nature or perhaps of philosophy that did her in. Although there is no question support for the WSU women's program is on the decline. Actually, Jody was looking to cash in on the Alex Harden success a couple of years back when her issues boiled to the surface.

I think Lane Lord is a good candidate. Kind of a similar background to Kristi Bredbenner who has done pretty well with the softball team. Actually, Lane has substantially more head coaching experience than did Kristi when she was hired.

Not sure if we will or should reach into the Juco ranks for a head coach or not. It just seems like a really big jump from that level and the way things are done at that level to a D-1 program. Hiring head coaches from the Juco ranks isn't something that Wichita State has been prone to do. So I am thinking Ontjes is a bit of a long shot.

I'm thinking you're probably right with Ontjes. I think he needs to move up to D2 first, but I do think his credentials are there. Lane would be a phenomenal choice, but again, I will give whoever we hire a chance. I mean hell, if I can give Todd Butler a chance knowing full well what a disaster it was going to be, I can give anybody a chance, right? I will say this much, whoever the new coach is will definitely be better than Jody Adams.

How much do you think it would take to woo Geno Auriemma from UConn. They look to be well on their way to their 5th consecutive NCAA title. (total sarcasm about Geno, I know that it would take a small country to get him away from UConn, but man wouldn't a coach like that be nice at WSU?) just a thought.

                There are no definites.

I guess Lynette Woddard is off the table. Hired as head coach at Winthrop.

Sounds like she is inheriting somewhat of a mess. Perhaps if she can turn that around and be successful at Winthrop she might actually be a candidate the next time the Shocks are in the market for a head WBB coach.

Winthrop was 6-55 the last 2 years and have had double-digit transfers out of the program the last 3 years. Lynnette joined the staff at Winthrop this last year.

Hope things work out better for Lynette at Winthrop than they did for Sheryl Swoopes at Loyola. Lynette is pretty inexperienced in terms of coaching. I wish her luck.

What we don't know regarding Keitha Adams is who initiated the contact with her. Did WSU contact her or did she contact WSU. Is this maybe providing us with an additional clue about the Shockers move to the AAC?

Maybe Keitha Adams has a strong desire to move back closer to her roots. Oxford is about 40 miles South of Wichita. Otherwise, she already apparently makes more than Jody was making and the move from UTEP in Conference USA to Wichita State in the Valley is a sideways move at best. This past year CUSA was ranked several notches above the Valley in both RPI and the Nolan Power Index. However, a move from CUSA to the AAC is a much more significant jump. Perhaps that is attractive to her and perhaps WSU feels the need to up the ante with the jump to the AAC as well.

Source? I saw the article that she had interviewed.

Here is Paul Suellentrop's report that Kelly Bond-White interviewed for the job.

Paul mentions the 3 candidates that have reportedly been interviewed (Lane Lord, Keitha Adams and Kelly Bond-White) but says it is likely that others have been interviewed as well.

No indication that any offer has been extended to anyone at this point.

I was told by a source within the basketball team that Kelly Bond would be introduced by Thursday as the next head coach.

Well with Texas ties and some experience in the SEC maybe she can bring some toughness, recruiting and success back to the lady shockers. We need more playmakers and three point shooters IMO, we have post presence already

I hear the new coach is bringing 2 A&M recruits with her mum. A "brittney Griner" type post player, and a supposed Diana Tuarasi type slasher/shooter. I'm just kidding. I know nothing. I'm sure I'll find out when everyone else does.

P5 experience and recruits in AAC territory, seems like a good fit for our future conference.
