When you look at the number of student-athletes who actually go pro in their sport it is small compared to the number of sutdent-athletes playing at NCAA schools. When parents and student-athletes look for a school to attend part of the consideration is what athletic officials promise these athletes and their parents. These athletes are looking for a good school, and parents want to able to trust the coaching staff and the athletic departments that their children attend. As for being on Kinder's case , get real. This young lady played hard every time she took the court. Yes, she she is player who judged herself hard. So if she wasn't so gracious after a game it was not at you but disapointment in herself. And if parents of athletes who expect great performances from their children, and if the children feel they failed they are not going to be in a good mood. Kinder was always gracious to the young fans that approached her after games, as well as the other young ladies on this team. As for Rice, her effort the 3 years is very questionable. Because of her effort and whatever other problems Rice may have, many coaches would have sent her packing, but Jane believed in her. And as for why the team didn't know what problems Rice has it is called HIPPA laws. Her medical problems are private just like everybody else's. The strength coach let this team down more than Jane and her staff. The strength and conditioning coaches should have made this team stronger than what they were this last season. And that is not a failure of Jane and her staff. Lastly, if the fans that griped about paying for tickets and have thoughts about not returning to games next year, maybe they should have cheered this team on this last year, instead of sitting in their seats and griping. Maybe they should save their money and stay home next year during the ladies' games. They can go and watch the men's coach throw a fit during a game, and then go home and watch it over and over on sportscenter.

So now you're choosing to take shots at Kerry Rosenblum and his staff? Do you really want to continue this discussion or do you think it might be better to drop it and disappear?
I don't know who you are (Jane, Jane's dog, a member of the team etc) but you are grinding an axe that dulled decades ago and is long past usefulness.
You are only serving to shame yourself and turn people against a person who's only fault was not winning enough games. For the love of God, stop.

It's very easy to skip every other word when reading posts. I'm as guilty as the next. So, to clarify, I didn't notice Kinder's negativity until after she was rude and I watched many, many games and how she interacted with others. And, whoever said my opinion will probably never change is right.
As for Rice's medical problems being private and protected, apparently they aren't when several are claiming they were openly discussed as to whether they were real or not. The interesting thing is I heard the same types of things about Kiki's medical problems and injuries. It makes you really wonder what was going on in this program the past two years.
Imagine the combustion if someone in authority is dealing with players and injuries inconsistently. For example, asking one player how they are doing when they stub their toe and totally ignoring the player in the cast. It would sure send the message to the team that one injury is "real" and another isn't. What if a player's scholarship was constantly threatened of being yanked? It could make players try to hide injuries and make them worse. What if someone in authority got information mixed up and judged their players injuries based on incorrect information or assumptions? What if they realized they had got the information mixed up and apologized to that player privately later but never said anything in front of the rest of the team about how they had been wrong about the player? That would sure make the team confused, wouldn't it? And, what if, in that confusion, they really were counting on an injured player, they mixed up the information on the player's injuries and they allowed themselves to just honestly get mad at the player and the rest of the team saw the anger but never knew the whole story?
I'm not sure Jane's "only" fault was not winning enough games. I think she "flipped" and "flopped" on players based on many things inclusive of injuries and the team chemistry was negatively impacted. I think they drew conclusions about each other based on trying to figure out Jane's actions/reactions.

This thread is like a car wreck on the side of the road; I can't take my eyes off of it!
I have but one observation: if ksooter's views represent the beliefs and philosophy of the previous staff, it is not difficult to see why it failed. Blame the fans and strength coach? Come on.Wear your seatbelt.

Jane's major fault in my opinion with this team was to not get them to a level where they should have been to begin with. You can't tell me that this team has as much a lack of talent as they showed this year. In my opinion, there were a lot of players that didn't give full effort, Whitney being one of the main ones, but not the only one. I still think part of the blame has to lie on the players for not playing and practicing as hard as they could and should have. Hopefully this new coach will get Whitney and the rest of the girls in shape and playing hard 100% of the time.

Well, after reading much of that grabage it is apparent to me that many watch the games and what is going on, but few have ANY idea as to what is going on or have any idea how to evaluate talent. Someone brought up Rice running the floor and having better court vision than Hoyt... All I have to say to that is rrrriiiight.. Try paying attention to the game once, BOTH guards were limited in running the floor because of the system if you actually knew what was going on you would understand that. Secondly, watch the two play defense and tell me who is a more "in your shorts" player. Third, even if Jacie drives and may travel some she has the quickness to do it, something Whitney lacks. I hope people don't think I am putting Whitney down because I think Whitney is a good player and a great asset to this team. Next, Daria may be very athletic, but frequently plays out of control and commits offensive fouls when there are better shots on the floor. Next, although I have heard things about work ethic, I wont comment on that because it's not something that needs to be commented on unless you are there to see it. Finally, for cripes sake lets drop the B.S. be excited about the new Coaching Staff and System and hope that they can turn the program around because I have been following the girls for about 12 years or so now and I am ready to see a lot more wins put up.

Last time I checked there were at least two people in the strength and conditioning area. All you have to do is look at the physical stature of other teams in the Valley, they are bigger and quicker because of what the strength and conditioning people do with them. Just for example, SIU, both of those teams can take the physical beating that goes on during the season, because of what the strength and condition people do for them throughout the season and the off season. The strength coaches have not just failed the women's team but the men's team also. I am entitled to my opinion just as you are in this forum, and who I am is someone in whom Christ dwells. I have also watched the vast majority of games of the Lady Shockers, so I know what I'm talking about too. Maybe you should stop looking for the negative and relish in the positive of this team, and resolve your unresolved anger.

KR is one of the best and I don't think he's failed anyone. He does what he can based upon what the coaches want. There was an article about that over the summer with the mens program. And I don't think anyone thinks that the mens program wasn't in the right shape to play and compete.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan

There was also a story about the baseball team where their strength and conditioning changed because of what muscles were used in baseball compared to other sports. KR is good, but he and his staff work many athletes. What works for one sport's athletes doesn't work for other athletes in other sports, because what is required from the muscles in each sport. When you look at the SIU teams, the physical stature of the men's team were like monsters and the women more muscular. When our post players cannot go up strong for rebounds and shots. Where does the fault lie? The other coaches trust the strength and conditioning people to do what it takes to make their teams strong. Our teams in every sport need to be strong and well conditioned so that they can compete. It's hard because our post players are going up against other post players that are more muscular than they are in the paint.

Interesting slant, ALTHOUGH noone gets stronger without self-motivation to do so, and that takes individual discipline, no matter who is coaching you along. It is an overall attitude the individual must have, and it doesn't end when you walk out of the strengthening and weight room.
No one can make you do something if you don't have it in you to do in the first place. I know what it is to overcome obstacles in life, particularly in sports because I was very little growing up, but also very competitive.
When I was in the 7th grade, I was the 2nd shortest kid in Jr. High at 4' 6 1/2" tall, and there were 112 students out for basketball. They retained 12 for the team, and I made it. Why, because I used my brain, and I worked harder than the others did, and it didn't end with Basketball practice.
BTW, I was kind of a Matt Braeuer style of PG. I was pretty fast.
There are usually 3 sides to every situation, but unfortunately, when you are a coach, the bottom line is your win-loss column, and Jane's was not good.
And I believe Kerry has the reputation for being one of the best in the nation in his area of expertise.

I believe the men were at the top of the Valley in rebounding. KR doesn't treat every team the same in his workouts. He designs them to what they need and the coaches want/ask for. Also, as Snap pointed out, work ethic and desire play a bigger factor in how you come out of the weight room. As we've discussed there previously on both basketball teams is that there are certain individuals who put in more work and want to get better. Others lack some of that desire and don't put forth as much effort to improve thier status. Not everyone is going to be a beast inside. Some players you don't want to be. Not at the expense of quickness. Again, I don't think strength was a problem on this years team. Style of play is a part of it as well. SIU should be the best built team. Look at the style they choose to play. It's rough, in your face D and they depend on being stronger than you and wearing you down. WSU has been more of a finesse team in the past. Relying more on execution and speed.
Like Snap, I too was the smallest guy in the class in MS. I think there was only one, maybe two girls shorter than me. But that never kept me from running the point or being the starting CB in football. It's about desire as much as skill with these players. Talent will only get you so far if you don't have the brains/desire/work ethic to improve yourself.Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan

Look at how players such as PJ, Phil, Randy Burns, and Paul Miller among others looked at the end of their senior year and where they progressed to. Then look at a player such as Sean Ogirri who never really progressed at all (as far as strength and conditioning). What you decide to do makes a bigger difference then any strength and conditioning coach can. The coaches can only guide you, not force you to change.
