    Houston Baptist 2-10(6) Shockers

Sydney is four for four with a homer, triple, and three RBI. Zoe had two hits including a homer, and Addie also had two hits.

Kenzie did a nice job in her first start: five innings, giving up two earned runs, six hits and a walk with four strikeouts.

I very solid debut in the circle for freshman Kenzie Schopfer. Not dominating, but solid and she held HBU at bay until the Shockers offense got going late.

I believe Syd is still perfect at the plate with RISP. Hitting 1.000 in those situations through 3 games.

Addie Barnard is on pace to hit 36 dingers and steal 128 bases. The team stole a total of 32 all of last season.

And Syd McKinney is off to an even hotter pace at the plate than Addi is.

Of course, that would only happen if the Shocks are playing competition comparable to Dayton, Sam Houston and Houston Baptist. Plus Addi might have warrant for her arrest in Huntsville for grand theft larceny so hopefully we can get her out of town.

Seriously though, a quick check of the schedule makes it clear things will be decidely more challenging moving forward including the following games this coming week: 2 games at Arkansas next Thursday and Saturday and a game vs Illinois next Friday. The Illini are off to a 3-1 start with their only loss being 4-2 to #14 LSU. The Illini are schedule to play LSU again today.

The rest of the non-con schedule also includes games with Minnesota x 2 (the Gohphers are off to a 2-2 start with both losses by 1 run to #12 Georgia), Nebraska x 2, Kansas x 2, Iowa,Olahoma State x 3, and Oklahoma. Plus the remainder of the schedule will generally be better than the teams the Shockers are facing this weekend. This will not be an easy non-con schedule overall.

Glad the Shocks are starting off with the Sam Houston State tournament though. Gives them a chance to get their sea legs and develop a little confidence especially for the new blood on the team. But the heat is definitely about to be turned up.

                  Game Four

                  Shockers v South Dakota

Starting lineup: Sydney, Addison, Neleigh, Lolo, Zoe, Bailey, Camryn,Lainee, Lauren with Erin in the circle. Grace Garcia is the starter for South Dakota.

Twitter has a different Shocker lineup with Jessica catching. I suspect LiveStats has it right. A late change?

Three up, three down in the Shocker first. Sydney made an out? Must be a transmission error. A leadoff single for the 'Yotes steals second as the second batter fans. Erin sets down the next two batters swinging. No score after one.

Shocks go 1-2-3 in the top of the first. Both Addie and Syd just missed squaring one up. You won't see those 1st 3 go in order very often.

Yotes get a lead off single, and a SB, but Erin records 3 strikeouts to keep a clean sheet. No score after 1.

Hey flyingMoose or anyone, what is the rule on pinch running? Has it changed? I have a memory that you could pinch run for a batter that reaches base but keep the batter in the game.

What's the rule there? (No hurry as I'm out for most of the day now).

Lolo leads off with a single in the second inning and moves to second base on Camry's two-out single. Lainee then grounds into a force out to end the Shocker second. For South Dakota, walk, Ks, Ks, single, ground out. Erin's rise appears to be on today. No score after two.

Starters have one re-entry. Subs have no re-entry; once they are removed from the game, they are done.

In the third, Addie singles with two outs - but then is caught stealing!! South Dakota opens their half with a single and, after Erin gets another swinging K, a stolen base. But the 'Yotes cannot get her home. Still no score after three.

Neleigh walks on four pitches to start the fourth, but Lolo grounds into a double play to end any threat. Garcia, a senior, had an ERA of almost 9 last year in limited innings, but she is getting it done so far today. A two-out walk for SD followed by another strikeout for Erin, her seventh of the game. Scoreless after four.

A new pitcher for the 'Yotes to start the fifth, a freshman from Clay Center. Camryn walks with one out. Lainee lines out to the 2B and into a DP. Bad baserunning? The DP was unassisted, so perhaps there was a hit-and-run on.

Two-out single for South Dakota but nothing more. No score after five. The Shocks have been outhit, four to three. Back to the top of the order - time to get something done. As a side note, these same two pitchers split the innings in the earlier game for the 'Yotes.

Sydney is on via an error with one out in the sixth. With two outs, Sydney steals second, but Neleigh flies out. A hit batter is the leadoff for SD. With one out, an infield single moves a pinch-runner into scoring position. Everyone gets to trot home as the 'Yotes get a two-out, three-run homer on a full count. 3-0 and on to the seventh.

Lolo lines out, but Zoe singles. Force out, but Camryn singles to keep hopes alive. Two on, two out. Lainee grounds out, and we have a ball game.

                            Shockers 0-3 South Dakota

Little offense for the Shocks - five singles, two by Camryn. Erin gave up the bomb among six hits allowed. Also, three walks, one hit batter, and seven strikeouts, all early. Was this good pitching or poor approaches in the batter's box? Would be interesting to hear.

Either way that will put a dent in the Shocks video game stats. Perhaps a good thing in the long run. Looking for the Shocks to bounce back against Sam Houston.

Yes, and a dent in their ranking I suspect.
