        Game One

        Dayton v Shockers

The starting lineup is Sydney SS, Arielle James 2B, Addison CF, Neleigh 1B, Lolo DP, Zoe Jones 3B, Jessica Garcia C, BaileyU RF, Lauren Lucas LF with Caitlin in the circle.

Hmm. I need to learn how to do that. :)

The Flyers (Dayton is the home town of the Wright brothers, you know) load the bases with one out in the first on a single, infield single, and Sydney error. They have yet to take a called strike. After a force at home, a grand slam follows. Dayton only had three hits in their opener against Houston Baptist when they were shutout. 4-0 as the Shocks come to bat in the bottom of the first.

Wow. Granny clears them. 4-0 Dayton. UFB

If you had Syd getting an error before an assist leading to a 4 run 1st, you're probably a rich person.

Sydney leads off the Shocker first with a double and Arielle is hit by a pitch. Addie's ground ball forces Arielle as Sydney advances to third. Needless to say, Addie promptly steals second. Touche. Neleigh hits a three-run blast on a full count. Lolo follows with a walk on four pitches, but Zoe and Jessica are outs. 4-3 Dayton after one.

A two-out infield single in the second for Dayton but nothing more. Bailey leads off the Shocker second with a double. Three hits, three extra-base hits for the Shocks. After Lauren flies out, the Flyers change pitchers - one time through the order? Sydney's second double of the day only advances Bailey to third. Then, ?? Arielle managed to hit into an inning-ending DP (Bailey out in a rundown and something else - Sydney tagged out at third?). Wasted opportunity. Still 4-3 after two.

Three up, three down in the Flyer third - all ground outs. Addie leads off with a walk for the Shocks, steals second during Neleigh's at-bat (what a surprise) and advances to third on Neleigh's fly out. Lolo follows with a single to tie the game. Zoe is then hit by a pitch but is doubled off first on Jessica's line drive. 4-4 after three.

Ugh! A single and a wild pitch puts a Dayton runner on second with two outs. An infield single advances that runner to third, and she scores on a throwing error by Jessica. Sounds like Zoe threw home to keep the runner from scoring, but Jessica made a bad throw trying to get her rounding third too far. 5-4 going to the bottom of the fourth.

Lauren gets a one-out single, and she advances to second on a ground out, but the Shocks cannot bring her around. 5-4 Dayton after four.

In the top of the fifth, three up, three down, and the Shockers come to bat in the bottom half. Addie leads off with an infield single. And steals second, but you already knew that. Neleigh singles to advance Addie to third, and Lolo scores her with another RBI-single. With two outs, Bailey singles to score Madyson, a pinch-runner for Lolo, to give the Shockers the lead. The Flyers make a pitching change.

Bad move. Lauren singles to score Caroline Tallent, another pinch-runner, and Sydney follows with a three-run blast to move the score to 10-5, Shocks. Camryn pinch-hits for Arielle and is safe on an error. Addie follows with a two-run bomb. 12-5 after five complete. Six of the eight runs in the half-inning scored after two were out.

Zoe moves from 3B to 2B, replacing Arielle, and Camryn remains in the game to play 3B.

A walk and a single in the sixth for Dayton, but the third out is recorded on a baserunning error following the single.

Lolo leads off the sixth for the Shockers with her third single. Zoe reaches on a fielder's choice and moves to third on a double by Jessica. Bailey doubles (well, she only gets credit for a single since Zoe scoring from third ends the game), and the Shocks win 13-5 in six innings by the runs-ahead rule.

                        Dayton 5-13(6) Shockers

The offense finally came to life to overcome some sloppy defense and just so-so (I think) pitching. Sydney had two doubles and a homer, Bailey had "two" doubles and a single, and Lolo had three singles. Addison, Neleigh, and Lauren all had two hits. Neleigh, Sydney and Addison each had a home run, and Neleigh and Sydney both had three RBI.

Caitlyn gave up eight hits including the early grand slam and four earned runs over six innings. She struck out three and walked one.

Rocky start, which isn't uncommon with the first game, but they've rebounded nicely.

I am out for most, if not all, of the rest of the evening, but I will provide the "banner" for the next game.

When researching the teams for the intro to this Classic, I thought there was a good chance to be runs-ahead winners for most of the games. We shall see.

                              Game Two

                              Shockers at Sam Houston State

Lineup: Sydney, Addison, Neleigh, Lolo, Zoe 2B, Camryn 3B, Bailey, Lainee C, Lauren with Erin in the circle. Mika Vento, the only pitcher to speak of for the Bearkats, is their starter.

In the Shocker third, Bailey leads off with a double and advances to third on a sac bunt by Lainee. Lauren drives her home with a single. Sydney forces Lauren out but steals second and comes all the way home on a throwing error by the catcher. 2-0 after three. Erin has seven Ks and has only yielded a double to this point.

In the fourth, Neleigh and Zoe hit solo homers. Erin gives up a solo homer to the Bearkats in the bottom half. Shockers lead 4-1 after four.

Sam Houston loads the bases with no outs in the fifth on two singles and a hit batter. A ground ball and sac fly score two. The Shocks still lead after five, 4-3.

A walk and a single start the bottom of the sixth for the Bearkats, and the runners move up a base on a sac bunt. A strikeout and ground out and the Shockers escape the jam. Headed to the last with the score 4-3, Shocks.

Jessica opens the seventh with a pinch-walk, and Caroline pinch-runs. One out later, Sydney singles, and Addison clocks the next pitch for a three-run homer. 7-3 and still batting. Pitching change for Sam Houston. Neleigh singles, and Lolo and Zoe walk to load the bases. Another pitching change. With two outs, Bailey singles home two runs but is thrown out at second trying to advance on the throw to the plate. Another big crooked number late in the game. 9-3 as we go to the bottom of the seventh.

For the Bearkats, single, pop up, wild pitch, and walk - no sense making this easy. Freshman Alison Cooper is on in relief. Her first pitch was not a strike, but it wasn't a wild pitch either. A nice way to get your feet wet. A single and error on Bailey in right scores two runs, both unearned at this point. Fly out and called strike three - Shocks win.

                              Shockers 9-5 Sam Houston State

Again, the offense carries the team - not unexpected at this point, I suppose. Sydney, Neleigh, and Bailey had two hits each among the nine hits for the Shocks. Neleigh, Zoe, and Addison homered, Addison's blast coming with two aboard for a team-leading three RBI.

Erin went 6.1, giving up six hits, four walks, and hitting two batters. She had ten strikeouts. Alison did a nice job closing out the game in her first appearance as a Shocker.
