Shocker SB at Plainsman (Auburn) Invite

Caitlin leads off the second with a homer to left. With one out, Mackenzie doubles and Furman changes pitchers. With two outs, Paige doubled Mackenzie home.

With one out, Furman loads the bases on a double, walk and infield single.

Is GT frozen now? More likely enough rain has arrived to stop the game.

Shockers have a 4-0 lead at this point.

GT woke up - let me catch up.

Madison got a force at home followed by a ground out to close out the second.

Six up and six down in the third.

Shocks still lead 4-0 after three.

In the fourth, Caitlin leads off with a single and is moved to second by Morgan and her sac bunt. After advancing to third on a wild pitch, a throwing error on Bailee's ground ball allows Caitlin to score and Bailee to wind up on second. Paige follows with a single to score Bailee.

Shockers stretch their lead to 6-0 in the middle of the fourth.

Furman is on the board with a walk, ground out and double.

6-1 after four.

With two outs, Bailey hits a solo shot out in right center to pad the Shocker lead.

A walk, single and wild pitch has runners on with two outs (both strikeouts) for Furman. A single scores two and a home run scores two more. With the score 7-5 and two outs in the fifth, Caitlin is in to pitch for the Shocks. She ends the inning by getting a strike out.

7-5 Shocks after five.

Bailey has pitched quite a few innings for this early in the season (plus in the batting lineup if she wasn't pitching). Not too surprising that she ran out of gas.

Mauriana Jamele makes her first 2018 appearance pinch-hitting for Morgan and get on with an infield single. Morgan reenters and moves to second on a sac bunt by Mackenzie. A two-out single by Paige moves Morgan to third, but Laurie pops out to end the Shocker half.

After strikeout for the first out of the Paladin half, an error and two walks load the bases. BaileyK is in to pitch. She gets a strikeout but walks in a run to cut the lead to one. Another strikeout ends the inning.

Shocks still lead 7-6 after six.

I'm not watching, but are we getting squeezed? Make them swing the bat at least by throwing or calling a freaking strike!

Two walks but no runs for the Shocks in the seventh.

Ground out, walk, strikeout, pinch-hit two-run homer for a Furman win. A six-run lead is wasted.

I think the Furman game completes a round-robin for the five teams at the Invite. Auburn has games scheduled against Tennessee Tech and Furman to complete the day, but given the forecast of a couple of days ago, each team is probably happy with getting four games in.

We shall see if the weather allows another Shocker game tomorrow.
