    Marshall v Shockers

Another lineup of course, but BaileyL is in the circle.

    Mackenzie - 3b
Bailee (of the two homers earlier today) - lf
    Madison - c
    Paige - cf
    Laurie - ss
    Ryleigh - 1b
    Bailey - p
    Cassidy - rf
    Morgan - dp
    Kaylee - 2b (flex - not batting)

Ali Burdette has the start for the Thundering Herd. Last year, she was 5-0 with an ERA of 3.65. This from her bio and not last year's team stats. Hard to know how many starts, etc., she had.

Looks like Bailey Lange will be in the circle for the Shocks against Marshall.

Shocks are the home team for this game.

Looks like there is a little rain moving in from Montgomery that might pass through Auburn around 4:00 but it looks like it might be diminishing and doesn't look very heavy.

Marshall scores an unearned run in the top of the first. An infield single and error on Mackenzie (bad throw trying to get the out?), sac bunt of the runner to third and a single to center plates the run.

Mackenzie led off the Shocker half by reaching on an error, but she was doubled off when Bailee popped up a sac bunt attempt, ending any Shocker threat.

        Marshall leads 1-0 after one.

The Marshall second was scoreless but not for lack of trying. Single, bunt single, a bungled double steal where the lead runner was out (at 2nd? surely at 3rd - or perhaps a rundown), an infield single and steal of second to put runners at third and second, a strikeout but the runner reaches first on a Madison passed ball (it appears). Then Bailey gets a strikeout to end the inning with the bases loaded.

Paige leads off the Shocker half with a homer to left to tie the game. With two outs, Bailey has an infield single and steals second. After Cassidy walks, Morgan then scores Bailey with a base hit to center for a Shocker lead.

          Shocks lead 2-1 after two.

Bailey has given up five hits (some of the infield variety) in two innings - let's see if she can settle in.

Ask and ye shall receive. Pop up and two strikeouts for Marshall in the third.

Nothing for the Shockers in the bottom half.

            Still 2-1 after three.

I finally found this from earlier today: Furman 3-1 Marshall. GT had frozen, but found the result on Furman's site.

Some more Adventures of the Thundering Herd in the fourth. With two outs, a walk, single, strike out but the runner reaches on another passed ball loads the bases. Bailey gets the last out on a pop up. (GT says E-Catcher, but I suspect these are really Passed Balls rather than a bad throw to first on a dropped third strike.)

Laurie singles and Ryleigh moves her all the way to third with a sac bunt. After Bailey walks, Marshall changes pitchers. Bailey steals second. After a strikeout, Laurie scores on another error by the catcher (see above - but maybe a bad pickoff attempt). Morgan follows with a double to score Bailey from second.

              Shockers 4-1 after four.

With Bailey stealing and running the bases so much, her recovery time to go out and pitch will be interesting to watch.

Last year Marshall had a senior pitcher, Jordan Dixon, who started 38 of their 54 games and appeared in 49 of those games. Sound familiar. Dixon had a very fine 1.87 ERA over 280.2 innings (280.2 innings/77.0% of the team total). And we thought Katie Malone was a workhorse (227.2 innings/65.3% of the team total).

Sophomore Kailee Williamson started 11 games with a total of 37.2 innings over 19 appearances with an ERA of 4.09.

Ali Burdette, a junior last year, appeared in 16 games with 5 starts with an ERA 3.65 in 46.0 innings.

For Marshall: single, stolen base, advance to third on throwing error by Paige after a catch in center, score an unearned run on a two-out error by Ryleigh.

Bailee leads off the bottom of the fifth with a walk, but Madison forces her at second on a sac bunt attempt. Asea Webber pinch-runs and moves to third ahead of walks to Paige and Laurie to laod the bases with one out. Marshall relieves with the pitcher who went against Auburn last night. Ryleigh scores Asea with a sac fly.

                  Shocks lead 5-2 after five.

Marshall continues to threaten. Walk, single (of the infield type probably) and the runners move up to second and third on an error by Ryleigh on the play. Bailey then gets a strikeout and pop up to get out of the inning.

Mckenzie Weber makes her initial appearance as a Shocker, pinch-hitting for Cassidy to lead off the bottom of the sixth - and she walks. Cassidy reenters and advances to second on a wild pitch before Mackenzie is safe on an infield error. Bailee is then hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. Madison and Paige are out, so the score remains

                    5-2 after six.

Lots of errors by both teams. I won't be surprised if told this infield is not the same quality as Auburn's home field.

I would be shocked if it was remotely close to the same quality as Auburn's home field.

Three up, three down in the seventh, and the Shockers have a nice win.

                    Marshall 2-5 Shockers

Happy that Bailey picked up the win today after being tagged with a loss in an outstanding outing yesterday. Arguable she was sharper yesterday allowing only 2 hits over 6 innings. vs Auburn. Forutnatley, she only walked two and her 9 strike out total was impressive. Sometimes the most important thing is to make the pitches when you have to. Bailey's ERA falls to 0.98.

It's early but Shocks have to be a bit concerned about their offense so far. But they are taking advantage of oppourtunities. Shocks did benefit from 7 free passes from Marshall pitchers today.

Marshall was receiving votes in the preseason poll and they gave Auburn a compettitve game yesterday so this was a good win for the Shocks.

                        Other Friday Games

                        Furman 3-1 Marshall

                        Auburn 3-0 Tennessee Tech

                        Auburn 2-0 Furman

Auburn has yet to allow a run - but they are not scoring that many either.

It looks like the Shock are scheduled to play Furman on Saturday at 11:30 am weather permitting.

AUBURN, Ala. - The Wichita State softball team defeated Marshall 5-2 at the Auburn City Softball Complex behind strong performances from starting pitcher Bailey Lange and senior Morgan Palmer.

Marshall and Tennessee Tech are playing the first game of the day Saturday, but there is no GT feed - only the Marshall Twitter feed. We can hope that GT is available for the Shockers game with Furman, but I have not found a link.

This game just finished (at about 1120am) with a Marshall win. The Twitter feed claimed this was their last game of the weekend.

LiveStats found via the Furman site.

                          Mackenzie - 3b
                          Bailee - cf
                          Paige - rf
                          Laurie - ss
                          Madison - c
                          Ryleigh - 1b
                          Bailey - p
                          Caitlin - dp

                          Kaylee - 2b (not batting)

Caitlin is the DP, but still might be the reliever-in-waiting.

Lindsey Bert, the returning ace of the staff for the Paladins, is in the circle for Furman.

Bailee and Laurie single in the first, and with two outs, a single by Madison scores Bailee. A throwing error by the left fielder (on the play at the plate?) also scores Laurie.

The Paladins are three-up, three-down with two strikeouts in the mix.

                            Shockers lead 2-0 after one.
