  • It's American Time - Shocks @ Temple and UConn This Weekend

The Shocks not only will play the first American Conference contest this weekend they will face Temple (Friday at 6:00 pm CT ) and UConn (Sunday at 11:00 am CT) for the first time ever in Volleyball.

Really hard to know too much about these two programs so we start learning this weekend.

Here are the Shocker match notes and scouting reports.

Temple (4-4) definitely has an international flavor on their roster including with their coaching staff. I would expect Temple to be pretty solid especially at home. Size wise they are okay but perhaps a little smaller than the Shocks.

The Temple match will be televised on the America Digital Network. Links are in the match notes above.

Temple match preview. Looks like it's a Cherry Out in Philadelphia to welcome the Shocks.

UConn (7-5) looks similar to Temple size wise.

UConn match preview. Free admission for the UConn match. I assume that is standard policy. A video stream is available for a fee on HuskyVision. Again links are in the Shocker match notes.,

Hopefully, the Shocks have kind of figured out how they want to play and which pieces work together the best.

It appears Paul is still plying his trade at the Eagle at this point. He as a volleyball article today. However, he doesn't talk about the upcoming matches are really much about Volleyball. The article is about viewing options in the AAC for Volleyball and other sports outside of Football and Men's Basketball.

The one bit of information relative to this weekend's matches is that the cost to watch Sunday's match on HuskyVision is $9.95.

Temple is really advertising the heck out of this game. "Cherry Out" and everything.

For reference, Temple's one home match, against Boston College on September 8, had an attendance of 1124.

Have watched some of Temple on tape. Temple plays fast enough, lots of back-row attacking. They get foreign students that others do not know about. The Owls have finished second or third the past three seasons.

Lost to Maryland, 2-3, so they can play.

AAC teams have been inconsistent, but the possibilities are there.

This American Digital Network is pretty slick.

And with Chromecast it's like regular TV. I Love our new conference.

Hey 72, did you catch that? We're watching the match!

                        Set 1

                        Shockers 29-27 Temple

Tabitha hit .000 (3-3-8), but Mikaela was .692, Abbie was .444 and Alex was .600.

                        Blocks were 2 v 2.

While Temple is certainly weaker defensively than a lot of teams, it's hard to see how in the heck they are 4-4 against the schedule they've played.

It's about to be 1-1 and WSU is hitting better than .350. Not passing great, and Temple is hitting over .325

Pretty surprising to me....especially, again, for a 4-4 team that's been swept by Colgate and beaten by UMBC and Villanova.

                              Set 2

                              Shockers 19-25 Temple

Shocks end the set hitting .360 for the match, but Temple is hitting .345. Temple leads in swings, 84-75.

NOTE: Jenny Whitledge played some back row in this set.
