Let's not overlook a very good Iowa State team who will await the Shocks on Sunday after they take on Creighton tomorrow. I think it might be a good thing that the Shocks have tomorrow off after the emotion and effort they put out tonight beating Creighton.

Coming down off this high and getting refocused and reset to take on another very good opponent on Sunday will be another challenge for Lambo and team.

Alex Koon doesn't exactly conjure up images of a thorough bred athlete but she is a mudder. Reminds me of former Shocker Lindsey Eckenrode prior to her knee injury.
My dad and I were comparing Alex to Lindsey during this match as well. Her contribution was a little less high profile than others, but she had consistently good play across multiple phases of the game that really helped in pulling off this win.

BTW, this was the highest ranked team the Shocks have ever beaten. There only other top 10 win was over #10 Cal Poly in 2008. To top it off it was Creighton making it just that much sweeter.

After the Bluejays pulled away to an 18-10 set lead in the 2nd set I told my wife that the set was over. However, it would be important for the Shocks to at least trade points with Creighton to close out the set to re-establish a feeling that they could play with Creighton. The remainder of the set was 7-6 in Creighton's favor but the Shocks accomplished what they needed to accomplish. Good job by Lambo and Ladies getting the ship righted and functioning well again.

Lipscomb picked up 2 sweeps today over Northern Kentucky and Forida A&M. Things will be a bit tougher tomorrow as Lipscomb faces #3 Florida in Gainesville.

ETSU picked up a 3-2 win over Radford today and play Virginia Tech tomorrow.

Cal Poly swept IUPUI and North Dakota today. IUPUI plays North Dakota tomorrow. Cal Poly plays Green Bay.

              Marquette swept Southern Miss tonight.

Miami (OH) was swept by #15 Purdue tonight. They finish their non-con against the Loyola Ramblers tomorrow.

Duquesne lost a 5-setter at Ball State tonight. They play Butler and Evansville tomorrow.

I'm sorry, but if watching those student athletes compete and enjoy the win doesn't give you goosebumps you don't like sports.

Quick notes from an awesome win:

Tabitha was out of this world tonight! Her back row attacks were so good tonight. I laughed when I realized we were letting CU have free swings from the back vs them triple blocking TB and she was still getting kills.

I was not surprised Lambo decided to go with what he would call a more physical lineup with Emma and Alex starting against CU to Counter their length. Emma and Alex were not spectacular but very steady and Lambos trust paid off.

I hate to rain on the parade, but in my opinion, the crowd was meh at best. I wish we had more volleyball tradition/knowledge (ie two claps for opposing players during intros) and understood you can stand and cheer for more than set point. The first and fourth sets we had just scored and CU calls timeout, the place should have been bonkers. In the third or fourth set, even coach Sean and I think Tabitha were waving there arms trying to get people up and I would guess maybe 25-30 people got up. Maybe it's just me (I was starting to go hoarse tonight) but the way the team played and considering the opponent it should have been better. I will now hop off my soap box.

Agree with this. I was one of those standing 25, and was quite surprised the whole place was not standing to give recognition to the tremendous effort on the court.

I noticed that they had signs all over campus advertising that there was a volleyball game that night. There are fewer classes on Fridays so less students on campus, but the lack of student support is kind of mystifying to me.

Congrats on the W. Sounds like it was a great time in the revamped arena.

Yesss!! And many stood during the intros for Creighton - whaaat?! - where did that come from? Maybe they were just admiring the new look of the arena.

We have stood in the past for points other than set points before, but probably not as often as the situation warrants.

Hmm, two claps: Maybe someone with an "in" with the cheerleaders can talk them into scattering around the arena floor and "training" us to do the customary clap. Hands above their head to be visible and for emphasis maybe. Doc, is that you?

I can live with or without the 2 claps thing. But it would be nice to actually be able to hear and understand the PA announcer during player intros and throughout the match.
