flyingMoose here is an example of the step backwards towards the 1st baseline that Lauren does with her back foot. Not sure it has any impact on her effectivene but it does seem pretty unusual to me.

Game Three
Lineups: CC 2b, Addison, Taylor ss (still no Sami), Bailey, Lainee, Caroline 1b, Sophie dp, Mila rf, Krystin with Chloe in the circle and Sacco in the circle for the Owls. This the same pitching matchup as in Game One.
By design, I expect to see three pitchers from FAU today. By necessity would be nice, too.Last edited by flyingMoose; March 10, 2024, 12:57 PM.

Walk, walk, error by Mila in right field loads the bases with one out. A triple and homer follow. Five runs in for the Owls, and Lauren is in for the Shockers. She gives up a double but gets out of the inning. 5-0 and the Shocks come to bat.
CC single, Addison walks, and Taylor homers. 5-3. What a crazy game already! Schlotterbeck is in the circle for FAU. One starter lasts six batters and the other lasts only three. The next three Shockers are outs. FAU 5-3 after one.
Lauren gets all three batters with a K in the middle. After a walk to Mila, Krystin reaches on the force-out, but then is out for leaving early on a steal attempt. The delay in the LiveStats update tells me this was a Replay Out. 5-3 after two.
Walk, double, double and the Owls have added two more runs with no outs in the third. A wild pitch and a ground out scores another run. 8-3 in the middle of the third.
With one out, Addie doubles and moves to third on a wild pitch. She is thrown out at the plate on a grounder to third for the second out. A bit strange. 8-3 after three.
Alex is on to start the fourth. Lauren gives up three runs in 2.2 innings, and it lowers her ERA. Ouch! The Shockers are the three-pitchers-by-necessity team.
Walk, single, walk and the bases are full of Owls with one out. A flyout and then a grand slam on an 0-2 count (I am pretty sure). 12-3 and the Shocker need a serious rally.
Uh, no. Three up, three down. 12-3 after four complete.
Ditto for FAU in the fifth.
Mila reaches on an infield error - but then is thrown out rounding the bag? returning to the base? Somebody on the Plus will have to clarify this one. Krystin follows with an infield single, and CC walks. A walk to Taylor loads the bases with two outs. Bailey singles to score two runs. 12-5 and on to the sixth.
With one out, a hit batter and a walk and Alison is in for Alex. A double scores one run but the second runner is out at the plate, 8-4-2. Two-run homer follows. Sigh. A walk and another two-run homer. Another Sigh. 17-5 in the middle of the sixth.
Lambert, the third pitcher for FAU in this game, is in the circle for the Owls. Unfortunately, this is more by design than necessity.
Caroline starts the Shocks off with an infield single. Two Ks later, Krystin walks, but CC lines out to end the game.
Florida Atlantic 17-5(6) Shockers
Not much to talk about. No multi-hit batters, but Taylor did have the three-run homer early.

I will note that Charlotte and Florida Atlantic and to a lesser extent North Texas are an overall upgrade to softball in the AAC. UCF who left was plenty good.

Presley Bell did not "leave." One presumes it was felt an upgrade was needed. As pointed out by shoxlax, it is not clear we got one.
We need to find out if Jennifer Rocha has a protege. I think she was the last "keeper" pitching coach the Shockers had when she was here with Tim Walton. She left for Florida with Walton and is now at Oklahoma, her alma mater.Last edited by flyingMoose; March 10, 2024, 09:11 PM.
