The wheels come off quickly for Lauren in the bottom of the third. A hit batter on a 3-0 count, an infield single, her throwing error following a bunt single, a four pitch walk. Alex is on with the bases loaded, one run in and no outs.

Ugh!! Error, single, double. Six runs and still no outs. Another walk, a single, a fielder's choice before the three outs. 7-2 Bobcats after three.

Chalking this weekend defense up to early season sloppiness and position adjustments. If we are no better next weekend then we can worry.

Lainee has a two-out homer in the fourth. A double but no run in the Texas State fourth. 3-7 after four.

The Shocks get another run back in the fifth. Sydney single, Lauren walk, Zoe RBI-single. Texas State out in order in their half. 4-7 after five.

One really bad inning did the Shockers in.

LaurenH got pulled quickly? Something KB did not like? She had a nice first two innings and then ... . Alex did a nice job once she got warmed up. Outside the third inning, the Bobcats were 1 for 16.

Sydney had two singles. LaurenL had two RBI with her double. Lainee had her homer.

Did the Texas State coach really think they were going to call some sort of interference on Barnard? Might teach your player you probably shouldn't try to turn a double by stepping directly in the base line. Pretty sure she stepped directly on Addie.

Nine errors on the weekend: Sydney 3, Zoe 2, Sami 1, Pitchers 3. Pitchers are famously erratic fielders - they do not spend nearly enough time working on it. Zoe's best postion is probably not 3B, but beyond that, everybody else is playing at their best spot. Caveat: I do not have ESPN+ and did not watch any of the tournament. So, for example, Syd could have an error on a ball that a lot of SS would not get to.

At any rate, this is too many errors. I am not sure just time heals these wounds.

Too cheap. :) Mostly, if I had it, then I would watch stuff I don't really have time for. But maybe I should try it and see if that is the case.

Twelve runs allowed and only seven of them are earned. We do not have the pitching staff that can recover from errors with a bunch of strikeouts. The defense has to tighten up.

Also, the top five spots hit .531 while the bottom four spots hit .153. There is not much experience at the bottom, so I think that will improve with some more game reps.
