Thought Allison got a gift on that 2-1 pitch (really looked inside). But she leaves them loaded. 2-0 Shocks after 1.

Alison returns the favor in the bottom of the second with a K in there. 2-0 after two.
Lauren singles with one out but is caught stealing to end any threat. On to the bottom of the third.
The Bobcats tie the game in the third. After a single, a throwing error by Sami on the backend of a double play puts a runner on second. A double and a single each score a run. 2-2 after three complete.
Two singles (Lolo and Lainee) but no runs in the Shocker fourth.Last edited by flyingMoose; February 10, 2023, 05:25 PM.

Another three-up, three-down inning for Alison. 2-2 after four.
Mullins, the ace, is in to start the fifth for the Bobcats. Twice through the lineup for McCann.
Addison triples with one out. With two outs, she scores on a wild pitch. 3-2 in the middle of the fifth.
Another three-up, three-down inning for Alison who has now retired seven consecutive batters. 3-2 after five.
A lead-off walk leads off to no runs in the sixth for the Shocks.
Things got interesting in theTexas State sixth. A single and a four-pitch walk had runners on with one out. Alison got a fly out and a groundout to end the inning. 3-2 after six.
With two outs in the seventh, Addison walks and steals second, but Lauren flies out. Now, I want to know who is up in the bullpen for relief. Lauren?
The Bobcats get a lead-off double. A bunt single puts runners at the corners with nobody out. Then the Shocks get a 5-3-2 double play! with the runner on first reaching third. (Krystin subbed in for Zoe at third at the start of the half-inning.) Alison gets a pop out to end the game.
Shockers 3-2 Texas State
Alison is the story here. She gave up nine hits and two walks but battled to get the win. She had three strikeouts. Zoe had the two-run homer, and the triple by Addison led to the other run. Lauren had two singles.Last edited by flyingMoose; February 10, 2023, 06:27 PM.

I have wondered over the years (and this tournament is an example), does a coach ever say, We would love to come to your tournament, but for RPI reasons, we cannot play Kent State twice. Of course, that means Texas State has to play them twice and take the RPI hit. I think I doubt this ever happens, but I wonder. Got any ideas, Doc?
PS - A different flavor of this happens in volleyball. Washington was willing to come here to play a number of years ago, but they had the stipulation that they only play one match per day. Thus, the tournament opened on Thursday night with the Shockers hosting the Huskies. This kind of thing happens with the high-rent programs.

Team looked pretty good yesterday for the first couple games out. Wind was blowing in most of the day. Took care of business. Pitching is the only major question and we only gave up 3 runs all day. Should win both today. A 4-1 or 5-0 weekend is a good start. If we lose, cannot be to anyone but TXState of course. No major wind today and we could score 25 runs. Who knows.

I watched a replay (at least some of it) of the Texas State game on ESPN+ last night. Is it my imagination or has Addsion changed her setup at the plate just a little bit from last year. It appeared to me like she is not wrapping the bat around the back of her head to the extent that she did previously. Did anyone else notice that or am I just imagining that?

Mullins starting the first game for Texas State today after being unavailable yesterday. She hasn’t given up any runs through four, but has given up 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6. Surely the Shockers will see her tomorrow.
