A wild fifth set. From 3-4 to 7-4, then 8-11, then 11-11, then back and forth until the Bears scored the last three.

SD outscored MSU 110 - 98.
That can happen when a team wins 3 sets by a total of 7 points and loses 2 sets by a total of 19 points.
Kind of a unique aspect of volleyball. 1 or 2 lousy sets doesn't necessarily doom you. Those deficits go away.
Sort of like if the winner of a baseball game was whoever won the most innings despite maybe giving up 12 runs on one inning.

Very poor start by the Shock as they trail 4-9.
The Shocks now lead 20-18. Key turning point was back-to-back-to-back service aces by Kayce Litzau.
MSU goes on a 4-1 run to take a 22-21 lead ad force a Lambo time out.
Kayce's 4th service ace ties it at 23, A Brooke Smith block and a Megan Taflinger kill finishes of a 25-23 set 1 win.Last edited by 1972Shocker; January 24, 2021, 03:33 PM.

Kind of ugly near the end, Shocks trailed by 2 23-21 but after the timeout went kill, stuff, ace, kill to take the set. Lauren McMahon is going to be a solid middle for us. Brooke Smith had some good swings and blocks. Shocks with 5 aces, 4 by Kayce.

Shocks now down 9-11 in Set 2. Shocks dominating the blocking game but otherwise MSU playing better in most other areas.
After falling behind 10-14 Shocks scrore 3 in a row on a Brook Smith kill, a MSU attack error and a Sophia Rowling block to make 13-14 and MSU calls a timeout.Last edited by 1972Shocker; January 24, 2021, 03:51 PM.

9-8 Shocks. Again, too many errors for the Shocks is keeping the Bears close. A couple more errors and it's 11-9 MSU.
Kind of disappointed in the attention to detail so far. The Bears basically set 2 players, Cink and Flynn. Stop these 2 and we should be fine, but there are too many times those 2 are not getting covered enough. Not saying those 2 aren't good, but let's make them work a bit more.
Shocks went down 14-10 but 3 straight to make it 14-13 Bears and a timeout.
Shocks with 5 aces but 6 service errors and 7 return errors.
