  • Was Hill at WSU when Harry Miller was the coach? I remember he had a stud that never played.

    • I thought for sure Simmie played 1 year of Varsity ball here rather than the Freshman team. Hmmmmm??? It does not surprise me that he played in the ABA.

Carl Hall is just another reason that we appreciate the caliber of quality players that Coach Marshall and his Staff are bringing in here.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

        • I just watched the first half of Middle Georgia's game against Navarro last March and here is my take:

Middle Georgia played zone the entire time and Hall played almost the entire half. He did not waste any energy on the court, but instead, casually moved around the court and only showed high energy when someone tried to invade HIS space. He showed enough foot speed to get a hand in the face of wing guards jacking threes, but what was most impressive was his knack for the ball. He was ALWAYS moving to the area of the paint that the ball rebounded to, and he did so effortlessly. Had a block or two and a couple of steals just from knowing where the ball was going to be before anyone else on the court. Very impressive instincts and knowledge of where he was supposed to be on Defense.

Offensively, he has a very quick first step. In the post he can go left or right or step back. He dribbles well around the basket and passed well too. Decent touch for a big.

Athletically, Carl moved up and down the court in a hurry, showed good jumping ability, and first step quickness. His foot work was VERY good and he just seemed stronger (upper body) than the other guys that went for the rebound.

His skill set seems similar to Gabe Blair in that he can shoot and handle the ball a little. He's strong and athletic, but his style is nothing like Blair. Where Gabe is an energy guy, Carl is much more smooth and effortless; explosive when he needs to be. I don't have the depth of experience as some of our other fine posters, but his game isn't terribly dissimlar to Denzel Bowles.

I would encourage anyone that is interested to watch 10-20 minutes of his game last march. The link was posted earlier in this thread.

          • I remember Rudy. Wow, what a talent. Miller was not still coach then, was he?

            • I, too, am watching some action from last year's national tourny. Against Navarro, he played about 35 minutes, so he did seem to be conserving energy. He won't play more than about 25-28 minutes here, so hopefully we will see more active energy.
When he decides to go get the ball, it is his. He is strictly (seeing only his play in Hutch) a back-to-the-basketball post player. Whether he can shoot from the perimeter or not, I can't tell. That's ok, however because he is very talented at scoring with his back to the bucket. He does get himself out of position at times when he goes for a block or steal on the perimeter. He doesn't make much of an effort to get back in position. That, of course, will change at WSU. That being said, as Wufan stated, he dribbles, passes, rebounds and makes good post moves down low. A good get for the Shockers. Welcome aboard Carl Hall.

                • So I just watched the second half, and with about 7 minutes to go and Middle Georgia down 9 - Hall IS A MAN AMONG BOYS. He scores at will at that point. Very impressive 6 minutes from the man. The opposition can only foul him, but me still shoots about 50% after getting hacked or bumped!

                  • Hall dropped 22 on Indian River in a 73-59 win last night to take the Raiders to 4-0. They play the tournament host Daytona State this afternoon at either 3 p.m. CST or 4 p.m CST depending on which source is correct.

                    • Does anyone know the circumstances of why Carl transferred from Middle Georgia to NW Florida?

                      • Just finished watching Hall's 3 games in Hutch...whoooa! What a low post presence he has. Even the announcers stated he was the best low post player in the tourny. When it went in to Hall, he figured out a way to get to the basket. The only challenge in his offensive game is anything outside of about 8 feet. He might be able to shoot from mid-range, but I didn't see a single shot from the perimeter. That's ok. There are alot of great basketball PF's that can't shoot from outside the paint. He has a great sense for where the ball is from a rebounding perspective, especially on the offensive glass. He played himself out of position at times and didn't hustle to get back...maybe a result from playing 35 minutes a game. All-in-all he will be a good add to the Shockers next year when Durley & Blair exit campus. The PF position will be in very capable hands with Hall.
