  • From what I've heard in the past, Noel wasn't overly impressed with Turgeon the time or two they talked. However, he did like Marshall and was upbeat about that. But, we all knew this was a long shot, but you can't land 'em if you don't try. We are recruiting a number of his AAU teammates.

    • That's where I think X and Cheese can make a difference. Those kids that may have preconcieved notions about WSU, they can be corrected to reflect the truth about WSU.

Has X or Cheese been back lately?

Frankly, I doubt that Turgeon ever believed he could sign Noel and probably called the kid as a matter of courtesy, so to speak. The kid is going to pick up on that fact. Marshall does not have the same "issues" as Turgeon did so it doesn't surprise me that Noel liked Marshall.

        • I am trying to remember the last time WSU sighned a player rated as high as Noel is. John Smith maybe? X helped us with him--did he not? Maybe a package deal for Noel and a AAU teammate or 2? Wow, what an impact player he would be and his playing time would be sweet here. Noel would quickly be a player the Shocker fans love.

          • How high was Mo?

            • Mo Evans was a top 40, and he was the highest rated player since Dreiling, I believe. Who is the highest rated HS senior we've signed since Mo? Howard was a top 150, as was Ogirri. Was Butler a top 150?

If he was, I think that solidifies the argument on here about how stars and ratings don't mean squat.

                  • I checked. Butler was not, however, he was a three star prospect and the highest rated player in last years class. We have had several three star freshman: Stutz, Murry, Kyles, Butler, and several that are no longer with the program. We have not had a four star recruit, which is a solid top 100 since Mo Evans.

                    • I believe 3 stars are given to players as low as the top 350 or something around that.

                      • I think this class that signed for next year would arguably be the best on paper in quite some time. They are all 3 stars, and Hannah would surely be that. I don't know how they rank JUCO guys.

Hopefully Marshall can get one of those top 100 guys, but it really doesn't matter to me. As long as they do what coach needs them to do and can play against most everyone, we'll be just fine. We don't need the burger boys in here (though it would bring alot of attention to the program) to win games. We just need strong, athletic, hard nosed kids that are willing to put trust in their coach that he can get them places. Then we'll be in business.

                        • I think that our chances of getting him are 1 out of a 100, but the thing is, Marshall just might be the guy to pull it off. I wouldn't count Coach Marshall out on anything.

He would not fit in at USC (it's a Georgia thing vs West Coast), and offhand, Memphis or Louisville might be a good fit, but not as good as here. Here, he would be a Demi-God, a standout, a leader, and probably cherished for decades, long past his playing days. He, definately, would get playing time out of the gate, and be a very important part of the team.
