Then we need to sign Perry Ellis too! :posterwu:

Not sure how that would be.

Seems like Ellis might soak up most of the available touches, leaving fewer for Wessel.

Wessel has a pretty good cast of scorers around him, so his assists may be somewhat inflated. That also means that if his teammates require focus from the defense, he may find it easier to score. However, if he is one of those receiving defensive focus, his numbers are more impressive.

At any rate, he has another year of high school and I suspect at least one year to develop under Marshall before he'll be counted on. A redshirt may even be a possibility. He's got time to refine his game.

A stat that greatly concerned me though was his 51% free throw percentage. I am still skeptical as to whether he is really D-1 material.

Hmmm... Coach Snap is skeptical, Coach Marshall wants him enough to offer and pursue his commitment, with a plan for him to sign in the early period.

Hmmm... Snap or Marshall. Marshall or Snap. Who should we trust?

Got to go with Snap on this one. After all, he read some stats online. No way that a division I coach who has attended the actual games can compete with that when evaluating whether a guy is D-I material.

I hereby nominate Snap (of Snap Crackle & Pop) and ShockCity to the inaugural Shockernet HOF class.

Add Coach Martin at KSU, Coach Dawkins at Stanford and Coach Martin at SMS to the list of Coaches who Snap is skeptical of.

If you are trying to intimidate me, it didn't work. Now, I have not seen him play, and I was merely reporting on what his stats are, and stats do not lie, they are the actual records of a player's performance.

He may have the heart of a lion, I don't know, I hope he does, but a couple of his stats are lacking for what you guys are talking about him playing. 26% from the 3 line is NOT GOOD, by any standard. And 51% from the free throw line is terrible.

Hopefully he works on those and improves them, I hope so. And guys, it doesn't take a seasoned basketball coach to recognize when someone is talented or not. I have played in a lot of sports, for a lot of years, and I can tell talent or not when I see it (and I already said I have not seen him play yet - just reporting on some stats).

                  So, lighten up some already.

FWIW, I had an interesting conversation with an unnamed individual last night concerning Perry Ellis. I asked the individual who is very close to the Heights program what he specifically thought of Perry Ellis and where he might be leaning. He first said, “Let me first tell you about Evan Wessel the heart and soul of the Heights team.” He said, “If I’m picking a city league player to start a team with, Evan Wessel is the first player I would choose and it’s not even close, he’s a 6’4” point guard.” I was shocked at first and then he explained how Evan makes everyone around him better and the only time Heights has struggled this year is when Evan was out with a hand injury. He said his court vision is outstanding and he makes great decisions. He couldn’t say enough good things about Evan as a person, his high academic achievements and his overall basketball IQ and basketball talent. I thought it was interesting that he chose to praise Evan so highly before he even commented on Ellis… and this person has no connection to WSU.

Concerning Ellis, he said, “don’t’ take me wrong, Perry Ellis is a special player and will only get better.” I asked him again where he thought Perry would end up. He said Perry would like to join his sister at Memphis; however KU seemed like another logical choice. Then he added, “It wouldn’t surprise him if he ‘shocked’ everyone and joined Evan Wessel at WSU to form a special tandem of hometown hero’s and make it the hottest ticket around.” Yes, I’m telling you we still have a chance.

I know it’s easy for fans to over-hype recruits on a message board; however I was almost ‘giddy’ after visiting with this individual.

Thanks for that awesome report WstateU. I have snooped around and hear similar reports on Perry. It seemed like I heard Memphis, WSU, K-State, Texas, but KU with an early lead. By the time he graduates, if we are a Program that starts dancing in March, it seems that would help our cause with Perry. I would never underestimate the persuasive proficiency of Coach Marshall.

Evan really wants to be a Shocker and gave a very early verbal. That is exciting news and it is great to get a Wichita player in here. I think of the days of Stallworth and Bowman. They were surrounded with local and in-state players such as Jaimie Thompson, Kelley Pete, Dave Leach, etc. which made a solid supporting cast.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

Evan makes Rivals' Hovpensports.com 5 man pre-season all state team. Perry Ellis and Ja'ln Williams also named.

I haven't seen Evan anywhere at anytime and I was not wearing anything Shocker related. Is that creepy or what?

I think it's a bit creepy that you keep track of what you are wearing quite that closely.

Not all that difficult. If its a work day M-F its usually not Shocker related unless its after work and a game is scheduled. Weekend wardrobe if its coolish out I will have a Shocker jacket on or a Shocker sweatshirt so its not too difficult. I am a former jar head but its really not that difficult.
