Your summary is correct. Are you asking a question? ;-)

I don't know much about the elementary education major but I have not heard anything negative about it. Sharon Iorio is the dean; she previously was an associate dean in LAS and she deserves high marks.

The secondary education major at WSU is very good. You can see the secondary education majors at http://webs.wichita.edu/?u=coedhome&p=/programs. The appropriate departments outside the College of Education (i.e. Art, Biology, Chemistry, Geology & Physics (Earth and Space Science), English, MCLL (Foreign Language), History & Political Science (History / Government), Elliott School (Journalism), Math/Stat (Math), Music, Physics, Speech and Theater) usually have a "coordinator" who works with the College of Education (C&I?) to coordinate programs and help students. One example is former Kansas Teacher of the Year Sandra Peer. "Wal-Mart announced that Sandra Peer, a former mathematics teacher at Wichita High School Northwest and now an instructor at Wichita State University, has been named Teacher of the Year in Kansas in the 12th annual Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club State Teacher of the Year program. Peer was honored at a ceremony at the high school today, and in her honor the school received a $10,000 grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation." http://walmartstores.com/FactsNews/NewsRoom/6795.aspx Sandy is employed by both the Math/Stat Department and the College of Education with the large majority of her support from Math.

For Math/Science majors, the secondary education major has a slightly reduced set of major requirements compared with regular majors but students receive a good education in the major; some decide to go on to graduate school in the major rather than going directly into teaching. I am less familiar with the foreign languages but I have heard some good comments. (When you hear my German, you will understand why I am not a good judge of this area. :D )
Some posts are not visible to me. :peaceful:
Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

Although not 'education' specific, I enjoy both of these: :good:

Generating hundreds of jobs and millions of dollars each year, research at WSU means a bright future for Wichita.
        SFL is back!

        • Coy's major

Spanglerfan316, you stated that my summary was correct and you asked if I was asking a question. I was only answering your question:

rc20: I am curious about his academic plans. Does Johnny have a major?

By now, it looks like several other people have more than covered that subject in subsequent responses on this thread.

            • Actually you aren't allowed to have a major until after you complete your sophmore year. The NCAA has some rule about it, even if you know exactly what you are going to do.

OK. Sorry if I misunderstood your post. All that work looking through WSU's website for nothing. :D

                  • I like our chances! We have so much going for us...
Top tier Baseball program with a legend as a coach. An up and coming basketball team with a charisnmatic coach and one of his good friends on the team. Excellent facilities for both programs. A good Education department and easy drive to St. Joseph, MO. He should just go ahead and sign!

                          • Demonstrated again at CU. WSU has no backup or replacement for Hawkins.

It's pretty obvious that a recruiting priority is a wing who can hit from distance and finish around the hoop. There's PT next year and a starting spot the year after for that player.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

                              • Well, if he was at Creighton last night, it should be obvious to him how much that we need him.
