Creighton has told Johnny that they aren't interested so I assume it's just another chance to see the Shox.

Honestly, I do not KNOW for certain why he will be there. I assumed it was to visit with the CU staff.

Creighton was the school that was the definite favorite the second Johnny left Arizona State. It is not my place to say why things have changed, but things have changed.

Johnny's brother says so right here. People on VT also have mentioned that Creighton is not recruiting him.

Everything Johnny has been saying about his recruitment has all been true. Wichita State has an excellent shot at getting Johnny. The thing that Drake lacks the most (baseball program) is something that Wichita State definitely has. The thing that Wichita State lacks the most (relationship with the coaching staff) is something that Drake definitely has. Creighton was the school that was the definite favorite the second Johnny left Arizona State. It is not my place to say why things have changed, but things have changed. All the Creighton coaches, fans, etc. are all top notch and unbelievable people.

Johnny is completely open as of this second. He plans to keep an open mind until Jan 1. Wichita State has every opportuntiy to develop a relationship with Johnny over the next three weeks that could persuade him in their favor. I have spoken to Coach Marshall and he seems like a great guy and a great coach. I LOOK FORWARD to meeting the legend that is Coach Stephenson on Monday. Johnny knows Mark Phelps very well at Drake and there is not a doubt in our minds that he will treat Johnny very well. We just hope Coach Marshall and Coach Stephenson can put no doubt in Johnny's mind that Wichita State is the place for him.

I am talking about Wichita State and Drake on this board because those are the two schools being discussed on this board. That definitely doesn't mean those are the only schools that have a legitimate shot at Johnny.

As far as professional baseball is concerned: Obviously Johnny has tremendous potential in baseball and that can be proven by his 7th round draft selection by the Phillies. However, Johnny is in no hurry or desperate desire to play professional baseball at this time. We understand the cut-throat business that is professional baseball. So many players give up college and "survive" three or four years in the minors before they finally call it quits. That will never happen to Johnny. He will play pro baseball when he is ready physically, mentally, and emotionally. I spoke to Pat Murphy (ASU baseball coach) on the phone for about an hour on Monday. We discussed Johnny's situation and I told him about Johnny's interest in Wichita State and learned some valuable information about Coach Stpehenson and the baseball program at Wichita State. I like the idea that Coach Stephenson will play the best guys and doesn't care about what anyone thinks. He is a lot like Coach Murphy in that way. I also did research on other players who were drafted in baseball out of high school and attended schools that did not have baseball for college. The best example I found was Dennis Dixon who was the QB out of Oregon a couple of years ago. He was taken in the 20th round out of high school and went on to play QB at Oregon (who didn't have baseball at that time). He was drafted again after his junior year by the Atlanta Braves in the 5th round after playing no college baseball and instead summer baseball. He was taken soley on upside and athletic ability. That is what Johnny has a lot of. Johnny is 6'8, hits for power, ran a 6.8 sixty for the Phillies and Royals, played shortstop for most of his life and was drafted as a 3rd baseman. He can also play the outfield and first base. If Johnny chose Drake, Dixon would be the example of a player he would want to follow.

As of this moment I can honestly say that Johnny is fair game to any of the schools that are currently recruiting him. Our family is trying to do as much research as possible to put infront of him. Hopefully after his visits to various schools and after meeting the coaching staffs he will get that feeling of where he needs to be. No matter what he decides everyone on this board should understand that this is a huge decision and it won't be an easy one. He is 19 years old and in three weeks he has to make a decision that will affect the rest of his life. Whatever school he chooses is definitley not a slap in the face at any of the schools he will not choose. Bashing kids for making tough decisions is not really the way to go and I can't stand it when people do those things on message boards. It puts a bad taste in everyone's mouth and definitley won't help the opinions of future recruits when their day comes to make the huge decision. I hope I have helped out. We would love to meet some fans at the game on Monday and there is a huge possibility that we make it out for Wichita State's first road game in the Valley as well. Good luck on the season. While writing this I saw where there are thoughts that a family member may be pushing Johnny toward Drake. I can honestly say that it was the case for him going to ASU, but it won't be the case this time. I guarantee you that!!!!!!

rc20: I am curious about his academic plans. Does Johnny have a major? I was gone last week and just read through this thread. I have some slight knowledge of the academic situations at Drake and WSU; I think it is fair to say that a person can get an outstanding education at both institutions. His choice of major might influence his decision.

This is a sports message board. People may say all kinds of silly things but I am pretty sure that all Shocker fans will respect the decision of such a mature and family-oriented person. I hope Johnny's dad gets better and recovers completely if this is possible. Best wishes to you and your family and Merry Christmas.

To the parents of the 6 year oldish boy in 106.....This is a SHOCKER game...when you help junior bandwaggoner pick out his clothes....leave the Beaker crap at home...you can pull it out anytime you fire up the '88 or '08 reruns but in the Chuck the crimson and blue is for losers.

To the mildly attractive coed about 15 rows up the student section: Be very happy it's not the late 80s and you aren't in my section. I'd hate to have to show you what we did to sweet little coeds who wore KU crap to WSU games. While many progressive laws have loosened things up, most of what would happen to you is still illegal.

I'm glad others share my usual hate for people who wear KU & K-State crap to Shocker games. I even get mad if someone has a KU or K-State tag on their car in the parking lot. BTW to the Jacka** in the black SUV who took up two parking spots at the Bank across from CKA saturday night and had a KU tag on the front of his SUV, if I see that again I will come after you like a spider monkey all hyped up on Mountain Dew! :wsu_posters:

no I don't.This what I don't understand and admit probably never will: why most of you think that every student that goes to KU or K-State is automatically a horrible person. I agree they shouldn't wear the gear but this venomous hatred for all things KU or K-State seems in very poor spirits in my eyes. Perhaps it's just me not following the rivalries longer than my first year at WSU but I stand by my statement. Go ahead with the insults and whatnot

SpanglerFan, way back in this thread near the beinning, someone mentioned that Johnny Coy wants to major in Education & become a coach someday. A Shocker current education major or grad responded that WSU had a great Education school.
