You keep him for as long as he wants to stay. If it's two years, great. If it's four years, even better.
You don't not take a kid just because he may not be here for four. That's why we do bring in JUCOs. If they can help you take them.
Like I said, I'm playing devils advocate....Can JC help us over the next two years. He's not a juco who has 2 years of experience...he played hs ball last year.
It's just a question...not trying to stir the proverbial pot.
There's no doubt in my mind he'd contribute immediately. That's why I said that. He's gone up against a top notch player at ASU every day in practice. I know it's just practice but it's still good experience.

I'll hang up and listen

Well, he was already drafted in the 7th round out of high school and turned it down. Our 15th(?) round high school pick got offered $500,000. My guess is he plans to graduate from where ever he goes.
Just to be clear, I would really like to see John come to WSU. I really like what I saw in the video. You just have to think of all the "what if" scenarios from the coach's side also.
Sub, please warn me before you type in all CAPS next time so I can turn my hearing aid down :D
There are no "What if's" in this scenario. He is an outstanding 2 sport player and a very nice young man. No matter what happens, if he comes here he and the university will both benefit from it. Especially the University.

Exactly. It would be like OSU saying they didn't want Oden or KSU saying they didn't want Beasley because they were would be gone after one season. Clearly Coy isn't at that same level (who is?), but he's still an out standing player that could start at almost any university in the country, whether it be baseball or basketball.
Has anyone on this board actually seen him play ? or just watched the very impressive you tube highlight video that is on this thread like I have. We all tend to fall in love with recruits from videos, stars, newspaper articles, etc. The videos don't typically show missed shots, turnovers, basketball iq, etc. We find that out once they get here.
We could only hope he is as good as Beasley and Oden. If he was, he would be headed to the NBA. John looks like a real good player but he red shirted this year so he may or may not come in ready to contribute. Look at our squad this year and even the 1st year players last year. There is an adjustment period that sometimes takes 1 or more years (Ellis). If he doesn't adjust to the game next year as a FRESHMAN we could potentially only have him for one year. There were more than a few on here who thought Durley, Ellis, (you fill in the blank) would be special....I still think they will but probably not until their senior years.
That being said, I would like to see him come here but let me add only if HCGM wants him and beleives he can make an instant impact or he plans to stay for four years.

Moshock let me run down his resume for you. He was once the #112 player in his class on Rivals, he finished #139. WSU hasn't had a top 150 player since, I think Maurice Evans. He averaged 27 points his senior season, it's impressive to average 27 points anywhere and he did it in what would be compared to 5A in Kansas. He was drafted in the 7th round out of high school for baseball and batted over .600 his senior season.
Yes he redshirted but you have to remember Arizona State is a top 25 team and they are probably stacked.
If that's not enough for you moshock i'll give you my personal guarantee that this kid won't disappoint you.

Unfortunately, I can't make the game tonight... sure hope the students have prepared a 'first class' welcome sign for Johnny Coy.
:good: :good:
P.S. I thought Kyle Wilson and even Phillip Thomasson were both top 100 players out of high school?
Kyle Wilson (32) F - Career Summary: Played in 97 games in his three seasons as a Shocker after playing as a freshman at the University of Illinois...Finished with
"You Just Want to Slap The #### Outta Some People"
I obviously don't have anything to do this afternoon. Did I mention that I'm playing devil's advocate ?
Beas was higher rated but some on this board think we should pass.
Baseball wise, John's a no brainer but he's coming on a basketball scholarship and from the pedigree could be also. Just something to consider.
Noah Krol finishes getting the save as he strikes out Arizona's Dollar Bill Rhino, complementing Travis Banwart's 2 hit shut out. WSU wins the game, 3-0.
