    • WICHITA, Kan. – Wichita State men's basketball coach Gregg Marshall received National Letters of Intent from Danish 7-footer Asbjorn Midtgaard [pronounced Az-BURN MEET-guard] and junior college point guard Samajae Haynes-Jones on Wednesday.

You can hear coach's excitement when he talks about AM. The kid has been lifting weights for six months....

        • Asbjorn Midtgaard [pronounced Az-BURN MEET-guard].

I'm sure he will give plenty of Az-BURN to the rest of the MVC

          • Went back to observe the two highlight tapes on page one. It appears that he catches the ball very well (soft hands) and rolls very well to the basket on pick & roll plays. Those are great positives. What I was most excited about was his body control & body awareness near the basket. He turns to give himself space without charging a lot. He also has a good awareness of where the basket is even though several shots were missed. Coordination & body control are very good and he will be more developed after another season of play.. Have a lot to look forward to when this young man reaches his potential. His passing vision was also developed for the short time of playing the sport. Do any of the faithful shockernet followers agree with me?

"Asbjorn received recruiting interest from nearly every coach that saw Global Squad play this summer. It’s not hard to understand why. As Coach Marshall said, Asbjorn is a 7-footer and chiseled. He moves well around the hoop and runs the floor."

"During the Global Squad season we held optional early morning workouts for any player that wanted to get extra work. Asbjorn was one of only two players that showed up every single day."

This is what makes this get quite a coup. 3G said they only started recruiting him about a month ago. Kudos to Coach Lindsted. He definitely earned his keep with this one. Gosh you think 3G new what he was doing when he hired Coach Lindsted?

                  • AM's point production is up quite a bit from last year, while playing in the same league. He's looking a lot less like a project than the info we had when he committed indicated.

He's 19 and getting about 10 and 10 in a league that apparently has mostly college grads. Akoon-Purcell is likely to have ended up in a pretty decent league. AM is probably playing against squads made up of players at or about Akoon-Purcell's level. That's likely to be better competition than the Valley provides, and similar competition to some of the better exempt tourneys, such as B4A.

He's 7' tall, and Marshall describes him as 270 and chiseled. He's only been playing basketball 4 or 5 years, and he's shown significant progress this year compared to last year. There's no way to predict his ceiling or when he might stop making significant progress year-to-year.

Now that I've made the disclaimer, Miitgaard could be the lunker a lot of fans have been looking for. If he progresses at a decent pace through college, he's a potential lottery pick. From the videos we've seen, he looks to have enough athleticism and coordination to go league. The amount of time he's been playing and the progress he's making indicates a good possibility of significant progress through his college career.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

                    • Well said, Aargh. He isn't facing just your basic high school kids, or even JC players.

The Great Dane may indeed be the guy to blow the roof off CKA -- we just didn't realize it was going to take a little longer for the explosion to happen.

By the way, can someone correct the "non-bind commitment" to reflect that he has signed his letter of intent and is officially a Shocker?

It's still non binding in a sense because nothing can contain him.

Yes, RMS, I know that, and so do most of us (I assume) -- I was just requesting that the title of his thread match the reality.

                              • Just how tall is this cat? I've seen him listed as 6'11", 7' and one site (http://abasketballacademy.com/global...jorn-midtgaard) lists him at 7'1"! And believe me, even an extra inch matters!
