Interesting Comparison. Asbjorn is listed at ~6'11 - 7'0, between 265-275. Bam Adebayo who Marshall referred to as "a mountain of a man" is 6'10 255. So we are basically getting a bigger version of him (though probably not as athletic).

Personally I think that could be just as or more important than the minutes he plays his first year.

We need to pray for Austin to get well so he won't keep having all the interludes with injuries because he is also a very special young man and his skills on the court could go off the charts. He lead our squad in 3-point % as a Frosh and how about that 3 he made against Kentucky in his short duration of playing time? Then, he was the first player over to Shamet to comfort him at the end of the game. What class acts we have on this team and I mean all of them!!!!!!! If CJ keeps working on his outside shot and becomes a solid defensive stopper, he will be amazing. It sounds selfish, but I wonder if he would benefit most by redshirting next Season? Then he should get way more minutes for us his final 3 Seasons. Just thinking out loud which is what we do here on SN.Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

Looks like Asbjorn had 4 points, 3 rebounds, a steal and a block yesterday.

Edit: Missed a couple of games during the last couple of weeks.
On 3/11/17 Asbjorn had 12 points, 8 rebounds, a steal and 3 blocks in a beatdown of Stevnsgade.
On 3/16/17 Asbjorn had 12 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals while suffering a beatdown by Bakken.

Are you a kenpom guy? Maybe they calculate fouls per minute.

And since you're basing your opinions on unsubstantiated information, I'd probably also buy a roll of Tums if I were you. Something tells me your 'gut feel' is off.

Per KenPom, Shaq has only committed 5.2 fouls per 40 minutes, which is third lowest among big men (Carter, Morris, Nurger, Wamukota, Willis) since 2015. Nurger was at 5.0 this season and Carter was at 4.2 in 2015.
Pretty impressive considering Shaq was at 8.6 (!!!) in 2015 and 7.4 last season."In God we trust, all others must bring data." - W. Edwards Deming

Something clicked for him with the Oklahoma game and he finished the season playing 451 minutes, had 48 PFs, for a 4.26 per 40.

Staying out of foul trouble is a journey all big men must deal with. You're inside, pushing and shoving. It's easy to get fouls. Some guys get it (i.e. how to play post) ad quit fouling, some never do. I think Shaq has (finally, hallelujah!!!). Plus, what I noted in past seasons when Shaq got whistled, he would sometimes get animated. If I were a ref, that right there would piss me off.
I did not see near as much of that this season.
Also, and as a final point for my 'contribution' here this morning, Coach is on the record as saying Shaq got called for a lot of what he called 'phantom fouls' this year. That means Coach must think he's making progress. I believe wholeheartedly that HCGM brought in Willis to either recruit Shaq over or to force him to get better. I think Coach was tired of having to preach to him and decided some good, old-fashioned competition was in order. Shaq figured it out and started playing much better, which resulted in Willis being removed from the starting rotation and his minutes being lowered accordingly (Yes, I know Willis has some obvious defense and double team issues, we've gone far enough off this thread already).

I also wouldn't disagree with your thought about Marshall recruiting Willis to push Shaq. I think he does that for just about every position player on the roster. But I also think 3G likes having multiple options at the 5 which gives him a lot of flexibility when matching up against other teams.

Until then, I will just say (since you ask me if you are imagining it), I'd seek professional help if you thought his foul issues this season were near as bad as previous seasons. I'm seeing improvement, you refuse to give him credit for any improvement, but rather, seem to be making a point that his foul problems were just as bad as they always have been. They are not. We know for a fact his minutes increased, we know for a fact he was disqualified due to fouls in fewer games. These are data points you seem to miss when you make your opinions.

I'm basing my most current sample/specimen on the Dayton thriller. If Shaq would have played more than 14 minutes the game might not have been in doubt as it was til the end. There were several games this year, often even, when he went to the bench early. No?
