If you were the coach, and you looked at what you might get out of Frankamp next year and you looked at what you might get out of Hamilton in either of the next two years. Then you looked at losing every current scholarship player taller than 6'5" (except for McDuffie and Hamilton) in 2017. Then you looked at having Smith, Reaves, and the hyphenated name guy from Hutch JuCo as next year's PG's...do you think you might want to take a shot with Hamilton?

Frankamp has the rest of a long season to show that he's got something he hasn't shown yet. If he continues the way he's played in all but a couple of games this year, everybody would be best served by his finishing his career at Newman or Friends. Or maybe follow Wessel and get hired by a prestigious company and become very successful in a career in a town where everybody loves him.
Yeah, I'd have to keep Frankamp there.

If EH cannot get if figured out, this is an epic fail that has to fall on to more than just EH. Guys with this kind of athletic ability do not come along very often and it would be a travesty if we are unable to "coach" him up. Based on what I have seen of him his deficiencies are not related to effort.

The odd part is it seems like at times he puts in TOO much effort. He tries TOO hard to score, or defend, or steal, or block that he gets out of position and out of offense. I'm not sure how you change that.

Boy, coach looks steamed in that pic. His BP must be way up.....look at how his eyes are bugging out.

Even though EH is much bigger than our coach, I would have been a little intimidated at looking into those eyes at that point.

Even though some people say that SM is a little lazy and might be the one to go, there have been stories on SN as well as in the fishwrap that seem to indicate that EH has a hard time comprehending what coach wants him to do sometimes and this has lead to some confrontation.

Based on that, if I had to say someone might go, EH might be the one. If he doesn't/can't get it, he probably needs to go somewhere else.

By the way, shock, how old is that pic? Is it from this season?

I'm inclined to disagree. And primarily because of some of the confrontations we've heard about. Some people have problems with their attitude, I would think that the problem here is a failure to understand/comprehend coupled with the attitude, but since I'm not in Wichita and I haven't heard any rumors this season (yet) regarding EH's relationship with our coach, I will say I may not have all the information.

Anyone have any information regards whether EH and coach have tangled this season during the games? I am almost absolutely sure I saw an episode on TV last year when coach yanked him and there was some heated discussion between the parties.

              • Let's face it, some players just don't have the basketball IQ to play for 3G. Sometimes the coaches don't get it right thinking a certain player will make the IQ transition. Not an indictment on either party...just part of shaving I guess.

Without knowing, but just observing after 2+ years, he doesn't appear to be a guy who puts in the extra hour or two after practice working on shooting over his left, then right, shoulders. Maybe even practice his ball-handling skills as needed (which is little) for the position.

He hasn't shown any self-improvement. His form looks different (and rushed) on almost every shot he takes, of which a lot are threes :wink-new:
Then when he does get the ball on the block his angles look like the kind of angles you'd see an average Joe take at the Y in pick-ups.

And it's not necessarily just 3G, but Division 1. Mistakes or deficiencies that might not get exploited in Division 2/3/NAIA will in D1.

there are freak athletes that dont have the game IQ. So you are half right. He gives 110% on the court but its in every direction but the correct one. He looks like a career backup at this point. And Marshall doesnt recruit back ups.

That was a great picture. If it is typical for the photographer who took it, they're certainly very good at their work.

I have a friend that owns a photography studio. He's good enough that he has had photo shoots with Lilly Tomlin, James Baker, Ted Turner and more.

The picture you shared looks like one he might show to me and would have been very proud of.

                            • I understand and appreciate the debate regarding Hamilton and his future in the yellow and black. But I would have to say it's still a tad bit premature to write him off the roster. He's shown progress from last season's play although it's certainly not what any of us would like to see. Remember, this kid was not a 3 star or 4 star prospect coming out of high school.

For perspective, look at Rauno's progress over the past three years. His first two years left a lot to be desired although he had some real flashes last year. While the season is still young, it sure appears Rauno is a much improved player thus far and has been fairly consistent.

Bottom line: I've seen Marshall's eyes bulge out at several Shocker players over the years and most of them have survived and made it to graduation. The picture of him in Eric's grill just happens to capture the very essence of 3G's intensity.

                              • It is one thing to get a Coach yelling and eyes bugging out. However, when they also are showing their teeth, it is time to listen because this is not like a question/answer session but rather a player eager to listen with ears to the track and learn quietly scenario. No "hey Coach, you sure could use a breath mint" or no "Hey Coach, you look pretty intense and strong for an older guy". Or no-"hey Coach, I got this--just play me more and you can watch and learn." Just say nothing, do not repeat mistake when you return to game and then wink and smile at him, and just take your medicine and learn from it.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.
