Not bad. Not sure about the sparrows but 3 eagles would be about 20 feet.

Good grief, that's pretty intimidating as a SG, let alone when he plays point. And you know he'll have the opportunity to play the point for 3G.

Ron's wingspan is a little over 6'8" so if Austin has any more growth, he has the potential to be a very intimidating defensive stud.

Sometimes the angle of a photograph can be a bit misleading. Ron looks to be may an inch taller and definitely thicker. Part of Ron's reach advantage is with width of his torso. Of course, it is also comparing a high school senior to a 5th year college senior. Not sure Austin has the frame to ever be quite as physical as Ron. Only time will tell. Regardless of whether that happens or not I am excited about the prospects of Austin in a Shocker uniform.

It's the shoes. RB is wearing loafers and AR is wearing slides.

I know he's played well against some 5A schools, but the players that he's played against in these recent videos look like they are at most D-2 players. We'll have to see how he does against D-1 players when he gets here.
He's certainly not playing against a bunch of D1 players. However, I do get caught up in his skill level and pure basketball instincts. Some of those moves he just doesn't have time to think about. He just does it. That's what excites me.

By the way, Hogville is now on page 8 debating Austin and whether Arkansas should still pursue him.

              • Some entertaining posts from Hogville. I'm not even including the one where one member accused another of being part of the Klan. #Arkansas

Granted, most are asking why they aren't going after him, but these were some of the best (worst).

                • Wow, that's comedy gold. 3G and his staff are excellent at finding overlooked talent. It's what this program has been built on, and I anticipate Reaves being no exception to this.

                  • When you dont have a coach to make players better, I guess you cant buy low and sell high, so to speak. You have to buy mid to high and hold.

WSU clearly has a coach that can, well coach.

                    • That's a striking picture posed by 1972. Baker does indeed look taller, although one never knows -- things like posture and perspective (or in Baker's case, hair) can also have an impact.

But what's really striking is the difference in bulk. Obviously Ron is quite a bit older, and at a prime time in life for some serious athletic development to occur, plus he has the advantage of five years of exposure to Kerry Rosenboom. He's also built -- and always has been (look at the neck) -- like the high school football stud he once was. And Reaves may not have been quite so slim before his growth spurt; if you spread a given weight over 3-4 more inches, you're going to slim down.

The picture also really highlights how bulk can affect wingspan: in Baker's case, because of his thickness, his arms just simply start a good bit further apart, which automatically makes the tip to tip measurement greater.

Edit: also just looked at the quoted post from Hawg Red -- how many recruiting stars does HR think Baker had when he was in high school? I think I'll trust the judgment of Marshall and his staff on this one.

Great points. I don't think Reaves plays any football and it's been stated by many pundits that part of Ron's and Evan's success, or perhaps toughness, is a result of their football playing days. It's always iffy to compare one player's success with another but is always a tempting thing to do. Suffice to say that I'm just excited about the possibility of what Austin can be in Wichita State's program and that I fully expect him to be his own man who will set his own legacy.

I'm looking forward to a couple years down the road and hope we can come back to this thread and LOL at the Hawgville comments listed above.
