Austin Reaves 6-5 g Is officially a Shocker!

In the pic with Baker, Reaves looks like he's about 6'3" and 185. I don't really care if he's 6'5" or 6'3". If he is 6'3", then in his highlight videos, he was playing against a lot of 5'9" guys.
If KungWus' post
it's not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog. MT

Austin is an intriguing recruit. From what I can find Arkansas has 7 classes in boy's basketball 1A through 7A. Austin's Cedar Ridge High School team plays in class 3A although I think he has played against schools as big as 5A during the season. Austin did not pay summer ball (AAU?) prior to this past year which is one reason he was flying under the radar. I suppose his reported late growth spurt was also a significant factor.
Reportedly things were starting to pick up in Austin's recruiting when he verbally committed to the Shocks. He said he had offers from South Dakota State and Arkansas State and considerable interest from Gonzaga although it is difficult to gage how strong Gonzaga's interest was. After word got out that the Shocks had offered more of the big boys reportedly started making calls.
Looks like Rivals had him ranked as a 3-start recruit according to Verbal Commits.
Arkansas has not exactly yielded a plethora of players for the Shockers. I think Austin is Coach Marshall's 1st recruit out of Arkansas. You might remember Coach Turgeon had two Arkansas recruits on his 2006-07 roster. Arbry Butler was a 6-8, 187 F out of Little Rock Central who averaged 20 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists as a high school senior. He was a 3-star prospect. Arbry redshirted his 1st year. Chris Brown was a 6-7, 222 F out of Searcy. Chris average 14 points and 9 rebounds as a high school senior. Chris was the 2006 Arkansas Gatorade Player of the Year. Both Arbry and Chris played in the largest class of schools (which at that time was 5A I believe) and the played on the same AAU team. IIRC correctly Shocker fans were pretty excited about these two recruits as well. Unfortunately, things did not pan out for either young man at Wichita State.
The fact that Arbry and Chris did not make it happen at Wichita State doesn't mean Austin won't be a terrific player for the Shocks. However, it does show that recruiting is far from an exact science and that their are no guarantees.
Hopefully, Coach Marshall has discovered another under-recruited diamond in the rough similar to Ron and/or Fred. Only time will tell for sure but there are no guarantees.
Austin clearly has some work to do on his body and as we all know you don't play for Coach Marshall unless you are willing and able to play defense, hit the boards and get on the floor. None of which you can tell much about from high school highlight videos.
Personally I think Austin would be wise to follow the Baker Plan and take a redshirt year next year but that is just a WAG based on what my gut is telling me.Last edited by 1972Shocker; March 28, 2016, 12:35 AM.

Arbry was dumber than a rock and Chris had severe back problems.
Watch the videos, Austin has the BBIQ, Skills, and the IT factor that many talented players lack. Marshall wouldn't even have offered Arbry or Chris, he did however see Austin and offer him.

An aside: Strangely -- Arbry Butler just finished his collegiate career this spring as a 27-year-old senior at NCAA-DII University of South Carolina-Aiken. He averaged 15.3 points and 9.4 rebounds for the Pacers this season and was third-team all conference.
“The rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election was partly a cynical, knowing effort by political operators and their hype men in the media to steal an election or at least get rich trying. But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation. ... Americans gorge themselves daily on empty informational calories, indulging their sugar fixes of self-affirming half-truths and even outright lies.'”

I never saw that post thanks for the reminder. Anyway, question for the naive, if he goes to Sunrise does that nullify his commitment to WSU and he can open up his recruitment?
