He looks ready to go and we need a true point guard to defend and distribute. Looks quick, has handles and can go left or right. Lots of people seem to want Conner as a point guard....but me thinks I'd rather have him on the wing to drop 3-bombs all night. Right now Conner can't defend. You don't want a non-defender at the point position. This guy looks like our guy for next year to not only man the point but help Tyrone Taylor along.

I must say, I disagree with the whole way up in the air/stop gap position at the point guard. If that was the case, I don't think 3G would've jumped on this kid this soon. The fact that he did tells me that he sees something pretty special in this kid. None of us really know what all 3G is seeing in practice as it relates to the future of the PG position (TT,LS,CF, etc), but I don't see him as the kind of guy that is going to use a scholarship on a keep the program going kind of guy. The fact that he got this kid so early tells me that he got exactly what he was looking for in this kid.

If you watch this, you'll see that this guy has really good handles and an extremely quick first step.

Ok, after watching that, The kid has a ridiculous first step/crossover. He's going to cause defenses to lean off our shooters.

He is water bug quick. He also seems to have good control of his body when going to the rack. There seems to be critics that go after his perimeter and especially 3-point shooting. Both Cotton and Evan put in the gym work to improve their outside shooting.

I wouldn't put much stock into his juco stats, or lack of stats. I have no knowledge of the situation at the school where he played last year, but remember, we've all seen rosters where there are 20 players listed which makes playing time scarce. And just like high school, there can be a whole host of reasons for a really good player to not be noticed or get a chance to shine. What's important is how he looks on tape and what he does this season.

It's obvious that he's exceptionally quick and athletic. That's a good place to start.

He also was on the Dean's honor roll with a 3.0+ GPA. I read somewhere that "smart" is something 3G looks for. I'm certain his tweet of "Witchita" was an abberation.

Something else to consider, outside of Frankamp, think about the perimeter players we have coming in and what that would look like in full court pressing situations. With the shortened shot clock in college basketball it's going to be critical for teams to get down the court and into their offense as quickly as possible. Wouldn't be the first time a coach strategically recruited players with the idea of employing a specific tactic.

This is something I hadn't specifically considered, but what a great idea/execution of a plan if that is the case.

I haven't seen anything about Landry's wingspan, but with his vertical, he could be very dangerous playing center field in full court pressure.

                        Welcome to Shockernation Daishon!
You can never have enough guys that can handle the ball. A very good addition to a deep backcourt in 2016-17.

Brown and Kelly have already shown themselves to be terrific trappers in the press. A guy like Shamet and Taylor/Smith would make a terrific pressing team. I imagine Hamilton and McDuffie can do it too.

Did I miss something? Or can Jucos sign earlier?

Unimpressive stats last year. Without knowing anything about the team he was playing on, that might not mean anything. In some JuCos, after the PG passes the ball, he will never touch it again. He might touch it if the time clock is running down. That might explain a low 3-pt. %.

Do I recall right that he's gone for 25 and 18 in 2 games this year? Maybe a different environment (school) fits his game better. Marshall looked at him when he was hurt. Others probably looked at him at the same time. That might explain the lack of decent offers.

Somebody Marshall trusts must have bent Marshall's ear, or Marshall probably doesn't give him a second look. The second look led to a very quick official visit, offer, and commitment. That tends to indicate a "can't miss" guy.

I don't just assume that every guy Marshall signs is either great or an under the radar guy that everyone else missed on. Derail Green, Ri'an Holland, and Corey Henderson were swings and misses.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
