  • "Perry Ellis himself" -- a new high (low?) in backformation (turning a noun into a verb), even for the world of sports. But still a pretty descriptive term. And it's true: there's always going to be another couple of 7-foot one year wonders out there passing through on their way to the draft, whether it's Thon Maker, or whoever is in the 2017 crop.

    • He could still end up wearing the yellow and black - if not this year, somewhere down the road. I can see him not getting playing time next year and then getting disenchanted when Calipari reloads with a fresh crop of OADs.

      • So if he "out-of-nowhere" gets reclassified via cattle university...does Gregg Marshall start calling some people out in public? I would be pretty pissed if I thought I had the kid all signed, sealed and delivered (waiting on clearinghouse of course) to come to my school where I coach...only to see a competitor get that clearinghouse eligibility thing pushed through no problem. Hard for me to see that really happening as I would tend to think the NCAA would not want Coach Marshall opening up that can of worms all over the national news. Ummmm Rome show anyone? Lol

6 years ago, if I would have told you that we'd be toe-to-toe with Kentucky on a legit international 7 footer would you take it?
I won't be upset if he picks UK. I will be upset if he picks UK and gets reclassified because I will put it at about 85% that some shady **** went down.

          • I don't think anything is happening. So far, it appears there's only the one report and after that all I hear is crickets chirping.

If there really was a commit to UK by a 7-foot guy, you'd think there would be more than the single report, and there would be some noise from some recognized sources.

            • He certainly visited UK, and way too many people assume that visiting UK means you will sign with UK. Will he? Maybe. Is it a done deal? I don't think so either. He also visited WSU.

One thing I think about is the Carl Hall situation. He verbal led to VCU, but when asked how many years of eligibility he would have remaining, Shaka Smart said one. Low and behold, WSU comes in and says that if you come here, you will have 2 years remaining. Hall committed and VCU cried foul.

Something similar could be happening with Humphries, but in this case WSU has the short stick. No idea if true, but food for thought.

My understanding, which is not based on anything concrete, is that there is a fee to apply for that medical hardship year. WSU was willing to pay that cost while VCU was not. And that is where the rumor that Hall was receiving $$$ from WSU came from. Again, I connected those dots from little bits of info I read over the course of Hall's time here, so I can't vouch for it's accuracy.

Kentucky took Mulder from us...we take Humphries from them.

That would suck if they nabbed both of them from us.

I think Marshall would declare full on war with UK if they did!

talked to someone who has seen Humphries play who considers him a four-year player whose athletic ability may have been better suited to WSU than Kentucky.

                            • This story was dated August 1st, so I'm not sure this is anything new.

                              • Paul wrote, according to reports. They are all from the Kentucky people. It probably remains not a done deal until he reclassifies. There's a small chance Humphries changes his mind. And, perhaps HCGM is working on it, perhaps not. I tend to agree about him being a 4 year player. What he really has going for him is his size.
