Stephen Hurt was 6'9" and top-50 out of HS. Ask Bruce Weber how that's working out. Do it quick - Weber isn't likely to be around much longer.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

Hurt was not top 50 out of HS.

      Maybe JuCo.

Hurt was top 10, maybe 5 in JUCO. Lots of top 25 players don't really pan out, but the majority help their team win.

I wish I could remember the article, but I believe the school was Baylor.

Someone in Texas did a story on the coach Baylor had immediately before Art Briles. It documented how many top 100 football players who were busts. Sometimes it was grades, sometimes chronic injuries and sometimes the level that they were playing at was low relative to their recruiting position out of high school.

They probably failed on 12 top 100 HS Texas football players and most of our top 100 players are 4 star. 4 or 5 of those players just didn't get what it took to play D-1 football, even though they had reflexes, quickness and so forth to play.

My point here is that if 4-star fooball players can fail, it's easy to see how Hurt could fail. Maybe he just couldn't bring his game to the level needed. OTOH, he could always break out this year. I would say the chances are doubtful, but there's always a chance it would happen.

I'm glad we have TomBush I think he played as well as Hurt did last year (probably better) and he's showing improvement according to what I've read here. I'm hoping all our bigs improve. If our bigs improve in relation to the potential we're hearing, we will be great as it will take some of the pressure off FVV and Ron.

We should all keep in mind that Bush only played 6 mpg as a junior.

I don't think that it's a crap shoot. Marshall misses some but he hits pay dirt on a lot more. His ability to evaluate talent, mesh strengths, and hide weaknesses is at a very high level. It is much better than Bill Self in my opinion. Bill moved on after a few years or so at every stop. I think that he won a Sweet 16 at Tulsa. Gregg has built WSU into a national contender during his 8 years here.

It appears right now we have 2 ships left. If we sign 2 of these three players, would be be satisfied thus far with this recruiting class? 1. Mitchell 2. Santos 3. Willis.

Probably not. One of those three and a center or PG.

Signing any one of these 3 would be okay with me. A center would be a strong possibility. However, we will have lots of guards. The question that remains an unknown to me, is if one or two of them we already have will emerge as a point guard.

Me too. I THINK the answer is yes in Tyrone, probably Conner, and possibly Landry, but it could be one or none of the above. Interestingly, we MIGHT also have the post worked out as well with Shaq, Rauno, and maybe angry Eric.

If both of my suppositions are correct, then CJ, Zach, Peyton, Markis, and Rashard are in to man the 2/3/4. If we don't sign anyone else this year (which won't happen) we are still extremely loaded.

                          I make NO such assumption.

Nor do I, but I like to play within the realm that makes sense to me.

Fair enough, Doc, because who really knows? One can reasonably expect that Frankamp will be on scholarship after this coming season, but we don't know that; we also don't know that everyone who is otherwise eligible to return after next season will do so (and in fact we have plenty of experience suggesting that will not happen). So nothing that happens should be a total surprise, especially this early on.

Too many unknowns as to how many ships for next Season we will actually have. For the sake of SN fun, let's just say somehow, someway, we end up with 3. First off, the Shocker Staff have done lots of evaluations it appears. Nobody outworks them. Thus we can be quite selective with our remaining ships.

I really like the versatility of Steffon Mitchell and Nikola Djoga on the offensive side of the court. Now for the 3rd ship that might open up, it might depend upon our young players learning to play point guard. Will more than one of them play point guard when FVV graduates among Frankamp, Taylor, and Shamet? Also, how far will the games of Shaq, Kelly, Brown, McDuffie, Hamilton, and Nurger spring forward this Season? I point to these areas trying to decide if we sign a Center or a pure point guard if the ships are there for us to sign 3 if there are that many left open. I know, lot's of unknowns. However, right here on SN, we thrive on the world of unknowns.

Marshall mentioned in Lutz article called "Marshall works with one eye on the future" these words "The last time we lost 5 seniors, we went to the Final 4." Losing FVV, Grady, Baker, Bush, and Wessel is a hit that most teams would buckle under for a duration of time. The Shocks reload and it will be interesting just how quickly we take take a hit of 2-All Americans and 3 more solid contributors, all the same Season. Watching this Season unfold, it will be nice to see several of our your players step up to the pump and take solid roles this very Season in our rotation. I truly like the quality depth of our beloved Shocks, this very Season. It will be a delight to witness every second of it.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.
