Only two over at this point, joco; and remember -- Doc was speculating recently about a possible increase in scholarships, although I hadn't read that. Maybe he's just planning to pay for a couple of guys on his own dime.

Word is that basketball will have 15 scholarships available. Not sure when that will take effect, but probably the same time as the stipends.

Great for the power conferences, not so good for the rest of the world.

Maybe, but if we've got a head start on it, that would help.
You miss 100% of the shots you don't take....

.....but, statistically speaking, you miss 99% of the shots you do take.

Also keep in mind that we don't know what is necessarily meant by the word "offered." It could be that it is a conditional offer based on need come spring (whether due to transfers or changes in NCAA scholarship numbers). Players not only may not clarify that when they say they have an offer, they have incentive not to because reporting an offer can potentially help a players stock. I mean, if nothing else, reporting an offer from Wichita State pretty much guarantees you will get an offer from K-State.

I can see them doing that to make it the same as the women.

                  Good points.
I think there may have been some guys that took unofficial visits to Wichita State in hopes of elevating their recruiting stock.

WSU has the resources to afford extra scholarships or stipends or both, and will almost certainly do what it needs to do to keep up with its fellow big boys. Anything else would be out of character these days. Also, good points about the ambiguity of reported "offers," Hatter. Who knows what really is available to Mulder from WSU at this point?

Sometimes it comes in very handy not having to spend money on football.

An unofficial to WSU gets you an offer at K-State last I heard.

Here is what I found on increasing scholarships:

"Increasing the number of scholarships among Power Five schools is not being seriously considered right now, and it's not a topic for autonomy," Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delany told USA TODAY Sports.

Hmmm...maybe WSU will just do it unilaterally?

I don't see Mulder happening before Spring. They would have to know that Cotton, Baker, and Wessel are not coming back and they wouldn't have confidence in Brown but we'll find out soon.

If we go to 15, would it seem greedy of me to want to sign this talented player? Lots of unknowns here but our Coaching
Staff are all cleanly shaved and I have total confidence in their recruiting abilities.

Let's put it this way. Baker may have
been a "no star" then, but now everybody understands his value to our Program. They now even know how many stoplights are in his small home-town. Talk about player development!!! WOW!!! Talk about recruiting sleepers 'flying under the radar?" How many of these type players get oodles of attention from the NBA along with "All American" considerations?

The very Season we made the Final 4, Mr. Cotton was snubbed by
the Valley on any defensive honors prior to that. Guess what? We could Not have made 'this here Valley' so much bread
that very Season if Cotton had not been our defensive stopper, even after the blunder they made.

What about the 'smoothest of smooth' FVV. He makes a dagger shot versus the Zags as a Freshman. KU even wanted him
late, but ooops, "snooze and you lose."

Oh, by the way. If we can sign 15, please sign Mr. Mulder.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

Not sure who is pushing for 15 or why. My guess is most coaches would not be that wild about going to 15. Hard enough to keep 13 players happy. The only thing going to 15 will accomplish is increasing the already growing population of transfers and allowing power programs to stockpile talent at the expense of other programs.

Women's basketball has 15 scholarships but you don't see lot of rosters with 15 players on them outside of perhaps the top programs. I think the most scholarship players Jody has had on a roster is 13 with an average of 12. She told me a few years ago that she was unlikely to ever use her full allotment of shcolarships because it is just to many personalities to manage and keep happy and focused.
