We are averaging 5 blocked shots this season. And opponents know when they go inside there is that "big" presence. Last year we averaged 4.5 blocked shots. The year before 4.0. You can have EO with his defensive presence and hands of stone. Because of his bad hands, Shocker guards couldn't really maximize the offense to feed the post even when he was open. They didn't have the total confidence, not only could he catch it, but what was he going to do with it. Without dunking it, the chances of any points were pretty low. Too much of a handcuff to anoint him of "clone him on our roster for eternity." I will take improvement, which we are obviously getting. Time to move on from the EO train...sorry.

Except that Kadeem has been statistically very similar to EO this year. In other words, the model of duplicating having an EO type post player is exactly what we are doing to lead to this success.

      • We have been led to understand that Bush has good hands. Can he move, run the floor and elevate, and maybe all three of these things at the same timeand still catch the ball. If so, just making the defense re-spect the alley-oop if not ex-pect the alley-oop does wonders for the others in the offense.

        • But everyone has to admit he was a hell of story line for years, a great young man, a very good student and represented the university with class.

WSU and the world is better because EO was able to play basketball.

                What about CJ & DC?

I have never discounted his story and the quality young man he is. I have basically said what we got from his on the court performance didn't meet all the hype and expectations. Simple as that.

Having guys like CJ and DC also on the roster doesn't diminish the value of having the EO/KC type player as part of the rotation. In response to your critique of EO, I might as well have said, "What about Carl Hall?"

                      That makes no sense.

I wouldn't have thought I would have to spell it out, but here goes:

This year, out post rotation is KC, CJ, and DC. Last year out post rotation was EO and CH. I said that Kadeem and Ehimen have played virtually the same role and that having that piece in the rotation is a big part of our success (defensive stopper with very little offense).

You said, "What about CJ and DC?" Asking about the value of CJ and DC in regards to the value that Kadeem brings to the team is no different than asking about the value of Hall in regards to the value that EO brought to the team. Of course there were valuable post minutes given by other guys than KC and EO. That has no bearing on whether their minutes were valuable.

Obviously CJ, DC, and CH have all been valuable players in the post for us, but the fact that those players are good and valuable in no way undermines the idea that year in and year out having players like EO and KC (and hopefully Wamukota if he continues in that mold) is a valuable part of the post rotation in Marshall's system, and that was what was at question.

You mean we haven't successfully mined, recruited and developed one of the 50 best players in the history of the game of basketball yet?

Ridiculous fail on the part of the entire Wichita State University, from the President on down to the coaches and all the players, fans and admins. Embarrassing failure and everyone should be ashamed! I'm going to phog.tshirt and beg for their forgiveness, although if I were was intelligent and cool as they are, I would not give anyone as crappy as WSU the time of day.

Just like EO, Kadeem hasn't performed vs. expectations. I, just like most everyone else on SN, wouldn't change it because they are Shocker family. My point is the expectation going forward, I would imagine, is to upgrade the potential talent. I was responding to AndShock's comment about having an EO clone for eternity. My guess is Marshall wants a starting post player that will play more than 10 minutes in a run of 5 NCAA tournament games.

I think Marshall wants any starting post player that plays in a run of 5 NCAA tournament games.

Probably one that plays more than 10 minutes though, which might meant a game 6.
