  • Absolutely, Bluz. It's the coaches who are limited and can't talk about recruits until they sign. The players can talk all they want, about whatever they want, and can commit whenever and wherever they want -- some of them even like it so much they commit to multiple schools, and you don't know where they're going to sign until it happens (probably because they don't know either).

The best possible outcome of this weekend would be for hurt to (a) commit verbally to WSU and (b) cancel his scheduled visit to Indiana -- like what Isaiah Wilkins did after his visit to Virginia apparently convinced him he had found the promised land.

        • A follow-up visit by the Shocks, trop -- and also by the others he's visited? This kid is in serious demand.

          • Something weird is going on. Hurt cancelled his visit for this weekend, Hill tweeted that he's not coming to IU and we have the surprise Whitehead announcement tomorrow, not to mention the RJ announcement Friday.

I feel like we're either hitting a grand slam over the next few days or completely whiffing, no in-between

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

                • I was wondering who the heck you were talking about other than Hurt, Spangler -- Whitehead? RJ?

Fortunately, the link enlightened me: those are all references to Indiana's recruiting activities. As far as I'm concerned, they can have Whitehead and RJ, whoever they are -- or not -- just so long as Hurt comes to WSU. That would be big (literally), and very good, news.

                      • For what it's worth, last season NW Florida averaged 80 points / game under the coach who's now helping recruit him for WSU. That sounds somewhat uptempo to me, so he can't be totally intimidated by the prospect of playing fast. And it's hard to imagine that Forbes was planning to switch to a walk-it-up style if he had stayed.

Who knows -- maybe Hurt's a good outlet passer. Bill Walton could barely practice when he was at UCLA, his knees were so bad, but they played uptempo very nicely: he'd grab the rebound and get the ball out, they'd take off, and he'd either catch up eventually in case he was needed or just hang back to play defense after the fast break basket.

                          • This article sheds more light on Hurt droping Indiana. It was a mutal decision. Hurt also expressed concerns about Hanner Mosquera-Perea still being at IU during Hurt's two years.

My guess is playing time was a big issue. Indiana's top target, Goodluck Okonoboh is also a center. Indiana is the favorite although Ohio State and UNLV are serious threats.

                              Oh man.
Is rooting for Hurt and a grand slam sorta like rooting for the Royals? Or is signing Hurt way more likely than the Royals making the play-offs?
