  • 6'9" with athleticism and potential to be a second Early is pretty encourging. A RS isn't out of the question because he grew an inch. PT might be scarce at the 4, and Hamilton might be an NBA prospect at SF. An extra year to polish his game might pay huge dividends down the road for both the program and for Hmilton.

A 6'9", 240 lb. 22-year-old player with some perimeter skills is the kind of player Marshall can build a team around. If he doesn't RS, he's in the class with Brown and Kelly, which is strting to look a little nasty at the 3/4.

The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

    • If he truly is 6'9" then he is the second tallest guy on a team that doesn't have a whole lot of size. I still feel he will probably RS, but his size is very exciting! I'd think one of Hamilton, Bush, and Kelly will RS

No way Kelly or Bush redshirts.

        • He may not be done growing either.

Really? What information do you know? To make a claim such as that you must have some hard facts. Have you talked to Marshall about it? Have you gone and seen these guys play live? Don't hold out on us man! What do you know?!

            • With Kelly's skill set he is probably the most ready to come in and contribute. We don't have the front line depth to redshirt Bush. If you redshirt Bush you are saying that Shaq is going to eat up about 30 minutes a game.

              • Actually not, Cat. All that would be required would be for Carter, Shaq, Glass, and Kelly (assuming no other changes occur) to be able to play 80 minutes a game at the C and PF spots, and there might be circumstances in which WSU chooses to go small against some opponents (using Wessel at PF, for example) that would reduce that even further. And that assumes Hamilton won't play at all.

Obviously, none of us has a clue as to how the redshirting will shake out, and as a poster wisely pointed out elsewhere, Marshall and his staff may not know themselves at this point. But whatever happens with Wamukota is unlikely to be the result of Shaq having to play too much if Bush isn't available. There are plenty of ways to fill the necessary minutes.

                • This is purely a guess. There are a lot of things that can change between now and when the season starts, but I would think big man minutes might be something like:
                  Carter - 25-30 mpg
                  Glass- 18-23 mpg
                  Shaq - 10-15 mpg
                  Kelly - 10-15 mpg
with either Hamilton or Bush getting the remaining minutes and the other redshirting. Like I said this is just a guess. Based off nothing but what I have read in articles and websites

Pretty close. For various reasons, we haven't had a "big man" play much over 28 mpg under Marshall and that has been rare (Hall 28.6/Early 27.4). More like 25-27. You're pretty much on target with a 1st year Juco. So, if Carter plays 27 and Glass 21, that leaves 32 minutes, or 16 a piece, for a RS freshman and true freshman (yes, I know about the prep school). Prior to seeing how all shake out, that may be lot of minutes for inexperienced players.

I believe Hamilton is perfect for a RS, if he's willing and sees the benefits. Past that, Carter 26, Glass 19, Bush W. 13, Morris 13, Kelly 12, and Wessel (at the 4) 7, seems more reasonable and adds a lot more flexibility. I'd probably think differently if we had one more big man with D-I experience (Wessel aside).

                    • I really HOPE a really high level freshman does redshirt...along the same lines of how nice it would have been to have Stutz as a 5th year senior. I'm not saying I want anyone to redshirt, but this recruiting class might produce some high level guys who get 5 years. Shaq is already on that path, as well as Holland.

You guys. We are starting to have depth in the freshman recruiting classes, producing good players that are redshirting.

and people thought we might lose Marshall to Mizzou...

                      • Redshirting of Kelly and/or Bush would be a moot point if neither want to redshirt.

                          • Saw Coach Forbes on the Shocker Report with Mike Kennedy last night in KS22 following the Shocker baseball game.

A couple of points caught my attention FWIW. He said Bush had sent him a picture of himself to show how much he has already bulked up. He also mentioned that Darius, who was 220 when he arrived on campus is now weighing in at 245. I wondered if that wasn't a little bit of an exaggeration.

I did see Darius at the last Shocker softball game. The guy does have some broad shoulders and man those arms just never end. Darius showed great reactions during the game when a foul into the grandstands bounced over JR Simons head (who was sitting on the front row in front of Darius) and looked to be heading about 5 rows up when Darius showed great quickness as he reached up and snagged the ball cleanly with his left hand. Good thing none of the coaching staff was there because they probably would have been on Darius for not using two hands.

And any other Shocker player in Coach Marshall's system. He suggests, but does not mandate or dictate redshirts.

With those arms, I think that DC could catch a ball in the upper deck while sitting in the front row of the lower deck.
