Holy crap! Talk about international flavor! Are Becker and Stevens that good or are they token local players? No offense intended to either of those two young athletes but I had no idea the tennis and golf teams attracted such international talent. It reminds me of the days when there always seemed to be at least one BB player from Yugoslavia on the men's team! Have the tennis and golf teams always been dominated by international players?

Maybe not always, but often. Particularly golf. Wait, now that I think about it, tennis too.

Seriously, doesn't the WSU student body have an international flavor?

Yes. I believe so.

At one time a few years ago, I had accurate knowledge about WSU's marketing efforts to attract students, who reside in South America and the middle east. The university had recruiters based there. The recruiters were very successful in their efforts.

This paragraph will not be accurate, but it will give you idea about the importance of the foreign student to the university. The enrollment body is comprised of approximately 15% foreign students. Tuition paid by the foreign students is 30%-35% of the total tuition paid by the student body. Foreign students pay a much higher tuition rate per credit hour than Kansas citizen students.

As I said above, my numbers are not accurate, but the impact on income is relevant.

I played tennis at a JayHawk conference JUCO. There were three of us that had all placed in the top 10 in the state in high school tennis.We were the 5th, 6th, and 7th best players on the team (seven scholarships) and the #1-4 were all international students. The conference rule is that you can't give more than 4 international scholarships in tennis. On our team we had the # 2 rated player from Argentina, the #5 player from Brazil, and the #1 and #2 rated players from the Czech Republic. None of them spoke any English and all of them went on to SEC or ACC schools where they were All-Conference performers. We finished 5th in conference because other JUCOs had better foreigners.

They didn't speak much English, only enough to get by. I really don't know if they were placed or not, but they were constantly in contact with coaches from all over.

Prime Prep still not cleared

LSU freshman Jordan Mickey and TCU frosh Karviar Shepherd were both academically cleared by the NCAA to play this season, but that doesn’t mean that Deion Sanders’ Prime Prep has been given the green light by the NCAA.

The NCAA cleared the players because it felt that both were given misleading information by the school, sources told ESPN.com.

Prime Prep, the Dallas-based school that boasts star 2014 point guard recruit Emmanuel Mudiay and talented junior big man Elijah Thomas, is still going through the process to be cleared.

Here’s the NCAA statement regarding Prime Prep on the eligibilitycenter.org website:

“This program is under an extended evaluation period to determine if it meets the academic requirements for NCAA cleared status. During this evaluation period, the courses listed below may be subject to further review on a case-by-case basis, which will require additional academic documentation.”

Does Omar attend this academy now or last year? If this year, does he have time to transfer out?

Omar played for Prime Prep last year. I'm not positive but I believe he is transferring back to Ducanville for this year. If that is the case, hopefully Texas will let him play. It will be interesting to see what Mudiay does.

Scout.com ranks Sherman (6-8, 230) the No. 19 player at his position in the class of 2014. He raised his stock this summer, in part because his conditioning improved and allowed his scoring and passing abilities to shine.
“He’s a skilled kind of player,” said Brian Snow, Scout.com national recruiting analyst. “He’s not super athletic. He scores inside and out. He’s got refined post moves and has good touch out to the three-point line.”

He is also considering Miami (Fla.), Weber State, Georgia Tech and UCLA, according to Scout.com.

Love to hear everyone's thoughts on this short video of Omar. Clearly a good player but not as explosive as I was expecting.
