    • Why? I don't think some of you guys are giving shaq enough credit....

      • I think you underrate Kadeem.

No one has to discount Shaq's talent to say a true freshman won't beat out a 5th year senior.

Particularly when the 5th year senior has one full year of HCGM's system under his belt with EO and Carl as sparring partners.

            • This seems very similar to the VanVleet will beat out Armstead talk from last year…

The highly regarded walk on transfer with one year of eligibility spends his RS year learning the position and impresses coaches. Highly regarded freshman impresses fans in the HS all-star game. Guess who gets the nod?

Especially when the 5th year senior has played against LSU, Louisville, New Mexico State, Creighton, North Dakota State and Ole Miss.

                • With some of his posts, M-Dad must be playing around. Don't bite too easily.

                  • I hope shaq is good enough to command playing time. But beating out a 23 year old man is a tall order.

                      Definitely.

Same thing I felt regarding FVV: If he's good enough to start from day one over a fifth year senior that's had a year with the team already, then awesome. I'd love to see it, because that means he is an AMAZING player. I would absolutely love for Shaq to be that good.

But it's not a knock on his ability at all if Kadeem starts above him. Nor is it if he redshirts. Early, Carter, Kadeem, and CJ at the 4/5 is a tough depth chart with a lot of college experience.

                      • Not to worry. If Shaq is as good as he is reported to be, he will get his fair share of playing time this year.

He, our new guys, and our sophs and juniors are the future. And it is shapping up to look mighty damn good.

One year at a time ;)

I'd love to think about how good the future looks, but I'm far too busy thinking about how good this season looks.

                          • I do think HCGM will prioritize getting Shaq minutes (obviously with winning as priority #1) with a view to the future. We graduate a lot of post depth next year and an apprenticeship for a freshman is important much like FVV last year. I think for this reason if a rs was close, Shaq would probably be asked not to take it. I don't think a rs is going to be close because Shaq will likely be able to make legitimate contributions right away (though like most I anticipate him subbing for Coleby).

                            • It looks to me like Shaq's #1 priority for his Freshman year will be to get into the best physical condition he possibly can.

The transition from high school to D-1 ball is always more difficult that many fans think and I believe that is even more so the case for big men. A lot of these guys cruise in high school because they are just so much bigger and stronger than most of their competition. Shaq, as with most big guys will now need to learn to play with guys that are his equal in terms of size and strength while you have a bunch of athletic 4's helping off just to make life in and around the lane more difficult.

Shaq will get his minutes, but year 1 will be primarily for building a foundation for the future in any and all aspects of the game and conditioning.
