The only thing that I disagree with you is regarding your opinion that the Shockers don't have a chance at highly rated players. I don't know how high he will be rated in the end (I'm sure that he isn't #1 with all recruiting services) but there have times when teams who arrive early and have other good attributes (such as strong coaching staffs, regionally close to home, strong programs, good facilities, highly rated programs, etc.) have been able to lure Top 50 players. I'm not saying that we are the favorites but it's happened and I'm glad our coaches put us out there.

Who is the school that you want the higher end recruits to be considering? For me, its WSU.

No, of course not. Likewise, is this kid going to commit "at this moment"? No. He'll probably wait at least two years to decide where he wants to go to school. And as others have pointed out, he likely won't remain ranked #1 but will remain in the top 10-50.

I think we have more than a good chance of being on par with Xavier, Gonzaga, or VCU in a couple of years. What many of us have taken issue with is the manner in which you summarily dismissed WSU even having a remote chance landing players of Trier's caliber. Turgeon did exactly what you're doing, refusing to raise the bar--Marshall has not, and consequently he has been recruiting players Turgeon couldn't have dreamed of signing. It just goes to show, whether you think you can or think you can't, you're probably right.

My comment wasn't misleading. You guys started to get all defensive about what somebody who has actually seen him had to say about him and then I said who cares he isn't coming to WSU. Nothing mis leading about it, it's my belief that he won't be coming here. Then when pressed on the issue I even spelled it out.

I suppose if being a fan of WSU basketball means believing that kids rated as the #1 player in their class would honestly consider WSU then I guess I'm not an actual fan.

If it so troubles you and the others in the "shox over reality cult" just think of me as a rooter of WSU athletics as opposed to a fan of WSU athletics.

Anything is possible for WSU now. Get with the times man. Do you thing there would be stuff like this ten years ago?

Ya, I understand your point completely. Some posters on this board have a clouded view of what being a fan is. Some believe you have to have koolaid on the rocks and believe it is possible for the sun to rise in the west. And anyone who believes otherwise is a downer. Other fans can be more realistic with expectations. I fall on the later with you. And let me make it clear...there is no bigger Shocker basketball fan than me. I'm simply not an advocate for the koolaid drinking approach, however I have great respect for them because, like me, they love their Shockers. We both can coexist and be reasonably respectful.

You think huh? Well that settles it, since you think or rather you hope they will be. They might and I hope they are but that doesn't make it so and it doesn't make it so in what the average player perceives between the 4 programs.

I'm sorry if I used recent history and current reality to determine that a #1 ranked player will not honestly consider WSU. Can you give me something solid to change my mind regarding this instead of just telling me it offends you? If you don't agree thats great, I'm not trying to change your mind. I simply stated my view of the situation and have since been defending my view. Why is it so important to you that I believe exactly as you do on the matter? Does it change anything?

Ta I'm not disagreeing with the content of your message. I'm sorry I got onto you and I want to be able to post with you in the future. I'm just an excitable fan and often too positive. I will give you that too. I'm starving for basketball :) that is all. Again, you are not wrong. At least we can be thankful that 3G doesn't have the same defeatest attitude of Ta Town, otherwise he would only recruit the players we are "supposed" to recruit. All it takes is one kid to take the road less traveled. One day that kid will choose WSU. It may not be this one, but you'll never get one if you don't at least put yourself out there.

You asked me what I was suggesting. I'm suggesting we could be on par with those programs in a short period of time. I answered your question, that's all I did.

I'm not offended. You summarily dismissed us as having any chance with this guy (which is your opinion) and I am responding to it with my opinion. Recent history is a valid point, current reality may be a valid point, but the point I'm trying to make is that future reality may be different from both of those things. You don't need my permission to have your opinion, and if that's the way you felt after my response then I apologize. But when you state your position on an internet message board, be prepared to defend it with those who may have different view points.

"Who cares, he's not coming here." OK, touche, you never said he shouldn't be recruited. You're just saying we stand no chance, that no one should care whether we're recruiting or offering. Fair enough.

I care. I care that Marshall is giving the time of day to recruits practically in our own back yard, who could very well be interested in us for some reason we're not aware of. I care that Marshall obviously doesn't buy in to the same small time thinking that some previous coaches might have had and that some of our fans still do. I care that despite us being stuck in a non-BCS conference, that Marshall is attempting to live up to "high major" (or whatever you call it) expectations from his players and the fans. Expectations are a self fulfilling prophecy--the best you think you can do is the most you will probably achieve.
