I'm not convinced that getting a blue-chipper in our own backyard is easier than getting one from another neighborhood. Of course, it can vary from player-to-player but in many cases the opposite may be true. Many kids, especially the blue-chippers with lots of options, just like to move away from home for college. No different really than many non-athletes who have options.

I'm not arguing that we don't go after the local blue-chippers. We should go after everyone of 'em. But I'm not convinced being in their backyard gives us any particular advantage.

I don't think that Oklahoma is really in our own backyard. I do think that more players (than not) who may want to not live at home like it when there parents are only a couple of hours away (Oklahoma) or 6 hrs away (Dallas) so that they can attend their games.

He was actually talking about the stuff I was involved in earlier I think. We were actually calling him the guy who is not in our back yard...saying if we didn't get Perry Ellis who was in the back yard then it is tough to expect to get someone not in our backyard/this guy

I didn't say or intend to imply that Oklahoma was in our own backyard. I was simply making a general statement in response to a statement @SHOXMVC made. I interpreted his statements regarding our own backyard to be players from the Wichita metro area (i.e. Perry Ellis and Conner Frankamp). My apologies if I misinterpreted his statement.

I agree that being a couple hours away is far enough to be away from home but close enough for the home folks to see you play and that can be an advantage to schools in that position.

And 1972, I agree. You never know when someone wants to see the world a bit. A lot of times, a hometown situation might not be what someone wants. It all just depends.
