Let's hope Bowles is good enough to really challange FVV for PT. I witnessed Holland at the Camp here and he caught my eye very quickly. He is quick and can stroke it from other zip codes. By that I mean he has some serious range. Between games he stepped out around 25' and was making shots with reguarlity. Just watched a Shaq highlight gig on SN earlier and am feeling much better about our inside game next Season. Earl Watson was at the same Camp and can provide some needed energy from our rotation next Season that will be deeper with less injuries we sure hope. I keep hearing that Green can really stroke it and hoping he can get some serious D working as well. Coleby may well be the new addition that can step right in from jump street and that can produce and even start for us.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

    • He sounds okay, we can always use a smart player that can shoot the ball.

they briefly spoke about coleby on sportstalk just the other day. 'said he averaged 9 pts and 5 rebs per game. they didn't mention his shot-blocking, though. didn't he average like 3 or 4 blks per game? that's what i'm excited about.

        • Why doesn't Coleby have his own recruiting thread, I can't find it anywhere, and I have ran searches for it???

In his final year at Louisiana-Lafayette he had 73 blocks in 31 games for a 2.355 blocks per game average. In conference games only he had 46 blocks in 16 games, a 2.875 average. He averaged about 25 minutes of PT per game.

              • Ria’n Holland dunked four times this season. Just wait until his diet of peanut butter sandwiches kicks in.

Holland, a 6-foot guard from South View (N.C.), weighs 145 pounds. His goal is to gain 10 by the time he comes to Wichita State in June for summer school and basketball. Protein, good food, peanut butter and Muscle Milk headline his strategy for bulking up.

“I’ve got to hit the weights hard,” he said.

South View coach Wendell Wise mentions the new-found dunking ability as evidence Holland is getting stronger.

“That weight room has really paid off,” Wise said. “We’ve got to get some meat on him.”

I have to think he will play more 2 at the D-1 level and am glad he is improving his ball handling skills. The more interchangeable versitle players we have, the better.

                  • I'm thinking Bowles will be ahead of Holland at PG. So, if Ri'an is projected more at the SG, is there any reason one should be at least a little concerned about a back court of 5'11" PG and 6' 160 lb SG? I know that FVV and Mal didn't seem to have a problem playing together, however, Mal is a defensive specialist, 5th year senior that has 45 pounds on Ri'an.

Expect Ria'n to RS and put on more weight. He's capable of playing the point, or will be, but when you can shoot like he can, you can get away with being a little smaller. I love big guards, but I'll take a smaller guard with his abilities. And lets not forget we still have Baker and Wessel as young guards with size.

And you can be strong without being big. Hopefully Holland is or will be one of those guys.

Agree. I hoping with a full season of Evan and Ron, Nick "getting it" (I hope), plus Derail (and perhaps Cle) we won't need Ri'an's shooting for next year. A red shirt could certainly help that being strong without being big.

And that last article that was posted about Holland talked about how he knows he needs to get bigger and I believe he targeted 160 before he gets here in June. That'd be 15 more pounds and you know Kerry can put more on him if it's in him. I'm no professional but could he be around 180 by the time he'd start a RS FR year? Is that too optimistic? Could he put on around 30 pounds in a year and a half? Even if not, we've seen guys like the Curry's do quite well as shooters with some ball skills that were pretty lanky.

                          • Is he done growing? Maybe he could add an inch or two.
